Bea had arrived a little later than most to the beach. With her ankle wrapped and her having to use crutches just being on the beach proved rather difficult. The verdict of what had happened to her ankle, yesterday, was that she had sprained it. Why did she think that was only something that could happen to her? She wasn’t even uncoordinated; it was just dumb luck that she had found a particularly slippery spot on the stairs she supposed.
It seemed as if there was a good crowd for the party and Bea looked around for any of the few people she knew. Not spotting a single one, she decided the easiest thing would be to plant herself on of the chairs that were set up for people to sit on. She managed to find one that wasn’t too low to the ground and use it. Close enough to hear the music, far enough away that it wasn’t too loud. Unfortunately, not close enough to the drink or snack table to get something without getting up. She sighed, while the girl didn’t want to miss a party and a chance to meet some people and perhaps see well…. This was proving to be more hassle than it might have been worth. Still, she was here she might as well enjoy it as much as she could so she turned to face the other people, watching what they were doing and hoping that maybe someone would come over and talk to her.

Emilius had been late due to, ironically, a late detention from his Maths class that afternoon. The detention itself didn't delay him too long but he had a long to-do-list so without the extra hour his arrival at the party, he helped organise, was at least a half hour delayed. He placed a cigarette in his mouth and whilst exchanging the cigarette packet, for the lighter in his pocket, he looked out to check if Angelina or Adelaide were about.
Noticing the coast was clear he lit the fag and took a long drag before helping himself to a cup of Vimto. He scanned round for a seat as it'd make juggling a cigarette, a phone, and a drink easier when he noticed the girl. She was probably in either his year, or the year below, by Emilius' reckoning and appeared to be looking longingly at the drinks table. He scratched his head, took another drag, and then decided to play the Good Samaritan for the night. He waved a little to get her attention, as the music and general party ambiance was too loud for verbal communication of that distance. He then gestured using his cup to ask if it was what she was after.

Bea looked over as soon as she noticed someone waving. He seemed to gesture with his cup. She instantly understood and nodded back at him. So, he would know that yes she would like a drink.
She had noticed there was mostly, what seemed like types of soda on the table. Coke, which was a given almost any place the girl had ever been. And something called Vimto which seemed like it might be fruit flavored but she had never had that. There were a few others as well as well as some bottled water. Bea wasn’t overly picky about it whatever the boy picked out was fine with her.

Emilius turned round and accidentally knocked over a few cups of coke, that had been abandoned by their owners, in one almost graceful movement. He blushed and fumbled about, picking them up and trying to use a serviette to mop up the small acidic lake that was forming on the table. After a few minutes his task was accomplished and he went back to pouring a cup of lemonade, his tongue sticking out a little from concentration. Lemonade was a good choice Emilius concluded, you couldn't go wrong with it as 99% of people like it, or at least they may do as he had just made the statistic up in his head.
He carefully weaved past the dancing people with the two cups before he handed the girl the cup of lemonade and took up residence in the seat next to her. "Is lemonade ok?" he asked casually, as if they had been friends for years, "I thought it would be a good choice when i was over there pouring it, but now I'm not so sure, you can have my Vimto if it's more to your liking, although i suppose if you don't like fruit both those choices are buggered, they do have coke though". He scratched his head a little whilst he collected his thoughts, "Hi I'm Emilius by the way" he said cheerily, almost as if he had completely forgotten the drinks situation completely, "Basha or Sasha is it? I believe we're in the same Maths class". He grinned hopefully, praying that he got the right person and wasn't talking to a Jane from the drama department.

The ever gracious Bea, didn’t laugh, didn’t even smirk at him knocking over the cups. She didn’t want him to feel any more embarrassed than he might already be.
”Oh, lemonade is fine. Thank You.” She smiled at him and took the drink. Vimto? ”No, really I’m fine with this.” She paused. ”Umm…though can I ask what Vimto is? I mean I assume it’s some sort of soda but I’ve never had it before.” If her accent didn’t give away she was an American that might have.
”It’s nice to meet you and I’m Basha but feel free to call me Bea.” Thinking for a moment. ”Yes, we do have some math together.” The girl had a few math classes so she had to remember which ones but she, of course, was in with some older students. ”So, what are studying here?” Standard question, she assumed.

"Oh um it's just a fruit flavoured carbonated drink, I believe it contains grapes, raspberries, and black currents but don't quote me on that" he replied. Emilius smiled and drank some of his drink, the party was turning out to be better than Emilius thought, he had met a boy from the performing arts classes who seemed rather pleasant, chatted with some girls and hadn't gotten that much sand in his converse.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too Basha" Emilius said, extending a hand for her to shake, "I'm Emilius by the way".

She could only nod to what he said regarding the drink and thought she might have to try it at some point but not right now. The party was going, though Bea couldn’t help but wonder if maybe she shouldn’t have ventured out here. The sprain was actually rather bad, which was the reason for the crutches. If it had been mild she supposed she wouldn’t have needed them and it amazed her how she got so injured falling down some stairs.
He didn’t answer what he was studying but the girl figured he might not have heard her over the noise so she tried again. ”What are you studying here?” A bit louder this time but not obnoxiously so, just so he could hear her better.

"Studying? oh um advanced English and Maths, Physics, Ancient History, Geography I believe and oh what was that other one..." He paused in thought, trying to grab the information that was on the tip of his tongue "Ah extension English!!!". He raised a finger in triumph as he exclaimed the point then felt obliged to return he question, "What are you studying here? other than Maths of course". For a moment he wondered whether he had seen her in any of his other classes but failed to do so.
It was at this point that he noticed her crutches, mainly because he almost kicked one of them but that was besides the point, "Good heavens what happened to you? I trust nothing serious i hope" he exclaimed, rather concerned and embarrassed by the fact he hadn't them before. He took a long drag from his cigarette to dispel the cloud of awkward he thought he had created.

She nodded to what he said and realized what she meant was what his talent was in but phrased it wrong. ”Mostly math for me. Actually, I’ve managed to fit in all the math classes I can. Physics and advanced English.” He was an academic student by the sound of it but seemed to have a range of subjects
He almost kicked her crutch and the girl had assumed when he so nicely got her drink that he had already seen them but she realized upon his question that he must not have. ”Something kind of dumb actually. I managed to slip on the stairs on the bleachers the other day, when it was raining. I managed a rather severe sprain out of it.” She smiled slightly though at the next part of what she said. ”I’ve been trying to think of a better story to tell people though.” Obviously, she was joking but slipping on the stairs did sound rather dull; in her opinion.

"Oh right, so what were you doing on the bleachers in the middle of he rain?" he inquired whilst interrupting his smoking for a sip of Vimto, he grimaced a little at how the drink burnt his tongue. Emilius had never liked this feature of fizzy drinks, which was why he tended to avoid them unless they were free of course.
His ears pricked up when she mentioned the need for a better story, pushing his previous question right out of his head. "Well why not exaggerate what happened, or say you were pushed or something, you know make it sound sinister" he said excitedly, "Do you know anyone at the school who would do that? wait that might have serious repercussions". He paused in thought, "Well what exactly happened? was there anyone else there? you know that kind of thing" he added to his previous statement.
