OOC: I know it’s boring, but at least it’s an opening for an encounter. Adelaide’s dress: i54.tinypic.com/k154ed.jpgIC: Adelaide Peyroux slumped down in a chair at an empty table, her emerald green dress pooling around her black Doc Martins. The dress was just long enough to cover her rather distasteful footwear, but any sort of heeled footwear that wasn’t a boot wasn’t going to worn by her. The dress was a pretty one, something that Adelaide picked out herself from one of the posh boutique shops that were not far from the town, and it hugged her figure in all the right places, but she couldn’t help but feel out of place. There was something missing, she was sure of it. She couldn’t get it off her mind, and she knew it was going to bug her to no end. The redhead leaned forward and rested her elbow on the table, with her chin leaning on her hand. She had mingled with a fair amount of people, and approached most of the ones that were friendly, but everyone seemed like they cared more about showing off their outfits, dance moves or pick-up lines. She let out a frustrated groan and put her free hand on the table, tracing small circles on the table cloth. It was just so annoying that she couldn’t figure out what was wrong. She was obviously out of place in a formal setting, it was easy to understand, but there was definitely something else.

Felicity had known it was a bad idea to come to this party, after all, she didn't know anyone, and therefore, was stuck standing alone by a wall. Her brown eyes slid over the room full of people, noticing how beautiful they each were. She chewed her glossed lip gently with pearly white teeth, feeling uncomfortable and exposed.
She examined her nails, she'd gone out of her way to make everything perfect that night, not a hair was out of place, no sweat or acne on her forehead, not even a lipstick stain on the pads of her small fingers. She sighed again, slumping more against the wall, hoping to fade into it and disappear. Her eyes ran over the people, attempting to find just one loner. She closed her eyes and wished vainly.
When she opened her eyes, she spotted a girl with bright red hair sitting alone at a table, she was slightly surprised that her wish had come true, but acted as though she wasn't. Uncertainly she began to walk across the room, careful to avoid dancing couples and laughing friends.
She approached the girl from behind, tapping gently on her spine. She smiled, waiting for the girl to turn around.
"Hello," she spoke to the back of the girls red head. "I'm Felicity, and you are? That's a fantastic dress, might I add." She said with slight confidence evident in her tone.

Adelaide lifted her head when she heard a voice from behind her. The girl spoke with confidence and finished her sentence before the redhead even had time to turn around. Still, a person was an opportunity for adventure, so she put on a smile and stood, turning to be met with a pretty Asian girl.
“I’m Adelaide Peyroux, Harpist Extraordinaire. It’s a pleasure.” She extended a hand toward the carefully made up girl. “Are you new here? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”
The redhead studied the stranger’s face, her big brown eyes and her clear complexion. She had definitely not seen the girl before, and Adelaide knew a lot of people, even though it was only her first year at the school. Either way, she was willing to be friendly and hopefully make the new girl feel at home.

Carmen felt very out of place. She always had at these kinds of parties. She looked out of place to. She hadn't been able to fit her only dress into her bag, and didn't have money for a new dress, so Carmen had decided to come to the party in her usual clothing. A baggy grey T-shirt, faded blue jeans covered in pencil marks and a pair of elbow length knit red and green gloves, so she looked at least a little festive.
Seeing Felicity sitting at a table gave Carmen a momentary wave of relief, however the feeling is dampened a little by the other girl sitting with her. The thought of meeting two people in one day made Carmen very nervous, but they were out of the crowd. More importantly Felicity was a friend, and the other girl seemed nicer then most of the people in the crowds.
Carmen Eagerly started to walk toward the table, but as soon as she was clear of the frighting hustle of the crowd she slowed down considerably. She stopped for a moment. What if they're talking about something private? She thought to herself. After a moments thought Carmen decided if they didn't want her there she would be told to leave, and that wouldn't really be anything new.
Slowly, Carmen walked up to the table with her eyes directed at the ground, and her hands fiddling with each other. "Umm, mind if I sit with you?" She whispered timidly.

Felicity's smile widened as Carmen joined them, motioning for the blonde girl to join them if she pleased. She liked Carmen, and the girl looked slightly out of place, anyway. She was dressed casually and Felicity frowned, tapping her pointed finger against her lower lip.
"I had a dress you could have borrowed. In fact, you can borrow any of my things, just let me know." She said with a smile toward the younger girl. She turned back to Adelaide, her eyes still warmly lit.
"Yeah, I'm new. My parents actually weren't going to send me." She said, chuckling slightly, not sure if that would make her seem sketchy. She studied the girls face. Her eyebrows furrowing.
"You're pretty, I like your hair, did you dye it?" She asked, reaching forward and fingering a strand of the red hair. "What's your talent, like, why are you here?" She asked, taking a seat, interested as to why the girl was here.

Adelaide turned her head slightly after a small voice spoke. She didn’t really hear what the young looking blonde girl had said, but Felicity obviously had, as she gestured for her to sit at the table that the redhead had just stood up from. Felicity frowned at the poorly dressed girl and mentioned that she could have lent her a dress, before turning back to Adelaide. She confirmed she was new, and mentioned that her parents almost stopped her from coming, with a laugh.
“Good thing you did come. This place is great.” Adelaide said. “I can show you around later if you want. I can show you both around.” She turned her head to include the blonde girl.
It was then that Felicity touched the redhead’s hair, complimenting the colour and asking if it was dyed.
Adelaide let out a little laugh. “It’s naturally an auburn colour, but I prefer it like this. Kinda stands out from the crowd, don’t you think?” She laughed again, and took a seat at the table just as Felicity asked what her talent was. “As I said before, I play the harp. Well, play isn’t really the right word. I guess it’s more accurate to say I rock the harp.” She smiled to show that she was joking. “What about you?”
Adelaide turned to the little blonde girl, and smiled. “What’s your name? You wouldn’t happen to be new too, would ya’?” Her Cajun accent rang out around the table.

Carmen sat down, keeping her eyes on the ground. She was relieved to be allowed to sit with Felicity and her red-headed friend, but she still fidgeted quite a bit in her seat. Everything about the situation made her uncomfortable. Carmen didn't like crowds, or strangers, and having crowds of strangers all around her made Carmen feel anxious and also rather small. The dark didn't help either, as Carmen had never quite outgrown her childhood fear of it.
When Felicity offered to let Carmen borrow her belongings, Carmen almost jumped up and hugged her friend. She thought better of it and just looked into Felicity's eyes for the first time, and nodded. "Really?" She asked timidly, without mumbling for the first time since she arrived at the school. Her posture still gave hints at an insecurity, and awkwardness, but she seemed to be smiling at the ground now.
Then the red head offered to show her around the school. She simply nodded, and listened to the conversation. It didn't stay away from her as long as she'd hoped, and in a few moments questions were biting at her ankles again. "Carmen... I'm new." she answered in her quite, timid voice.

Felicity nodded at the younger girl, and then turned back to Adelaide, "Sure, a tour would be cool." She said. "If you have the time," she added, quickly. She laughed when Adelaide made the comment on this place being great.
"I have no doubt!" Felicity said with a smile, "but my parents don't like me acting, they think I'll turn into a slut." She said with an awkward smile. She was the definition of good girl, and most could tell, except her parents. She loved them, but sometimes they were a bit over the top.

Adelaide nodded when Felicity accepted her offer for a tour. “I’m good at tours. I’ve explored pretty much the whole place up and down. I know all the tricks.” She winked at Carmen, and smiled at Felicity, before laughing incredulously at her next statement about her parents thinking she’ll become a slut.
“Serious? Sounds pretty harsh. But acting is cool. I know a lot of actors here, or at least I used to. This place moves so fast, it seems like everyone can come and go within a month.” Adelaide scratched the back of her head, and turned to Carmen. “What about you? What are you in for? Something creative I’d bet.” She said, eyeing the girl’s red and green gloves with a small grin.

"Good. 'Cause I've gotten lost like, four times and almost drowned once." She said with a laugh, inwardly face-palming. She kept a smile on her face, eying Carmen and Adelaide. "Can I do something crazy with your hair?" She asked. "I won't dye it, just do random hair styles." She laughed, it sounded stupid, but she'd always wanted to have girl time.
"I'm serious! They wouldn't even let me have sleepovers, because other girl's influences."She laughed awkwardly, looking at the floor. She sometimes wondered why her parents didn't want her to be around other girls her age. Watching her cousins had become tedious.

Carmen simply sat and fiddled around with a small rock she'd found. Felicity and Adelaide seemed to be getting along well, and accepting Carmen's silence. People weren't usually enthusiastic about letting her sit with them because she wasn't good at carrying on a conversation.
When Adelaide her a tour offered a Carmen Just nodded. The wink took her by surprise though, she just smiled to cover up her surprise. The thought of a tour relieved her though, she'd been late for all of her classes since she arrived since she kept getting lost. one time she'd ended up walking a a big circle three times before she found the right room.
Carmen continued to roll her rock around in her left hand, and listen to the conversation. It got back to her far to quickly she thought. This time Adelaide wanted to know what she was good at, Carmen didn't really know if she was exceptionally good at anything. "I draw, I guess." She mumbled. She thought that was what she was supposed to be so good at, people always said she did good drawings, but Carmen just enjoyed them.
Then the Conversation seemed to be in a direction that she could sit and listen. This made Carmen smile a bit. The crowd behind her seemed to be a little less intimidating now, but the noise and movement of it all around her still made her nervous. Carmen simply continued to distract herself with the rock she'd picked up earlier, rolling it endlessly around in her hand, stopping a few times to run her fingers over it before continuing to roll it in a circle around her left hand.

Adelaide laughed at Felicity’s jokes towards herself. “We’ll I’m good for the tours but for drowning you’d have to talk to Darren. He’s the main swimmer around here. He’s always down by the pool.” The truth was that she’d only met Darren once, and it was in the library, but the boy was obnoxious enough to offer his name and talent though Adelaide was clearly busy reading a book and stalking the Librarian. From then she had noticed him at the pool almost every time she went, looking at the girls in their bathing suits and pretending to be a big-shot.
“Do whatever you want with my hair!” Adelaide said, running her fingers through her side-fringe with a smile. “It hardly gets any love. It’s either a pony-tail or it’s loose, like now. And then I dye the crap out of it every month.”
Felicity then laughed about her parents thinking other girls would influence her. “Then you’d best not hang out with me. I’m a parent’s worst nightmare.” Adelaide laughed to show she was just joking around. “But the dorm rooms here are like one big sleepover. I swear I’ve had to force the girls in my dorm to go to sleep just so I had a clear passage to sneak out at night.”
Adelaide turned to Carmen and asked her what her talent was, and she replied with an uncertain comment about drawing. “Well, you’re probably amazing at it. Not just anybody gets into a school like this. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re the next Rembrandt.”
