Darren strolled into the library with his navy blue swim bag slung over his shoulder. This time, perhaps for the first time, it was not carrying his swimming gear. He walked, confidently, to a table that was fairly secluded, and dropped his bag down with a mild thumping sound of the books hitting the dark wood. He sat, and leaned back on his chair, not even bothering to begin to study without the pretty brunette. That day, when the clock struck four, the Australian boy was to meet his new math tutor, Bea, in the library; and he was more than excited.
Bea was cute, with the same chocolate hair that Miss Hatch had, and Darren was looking forward to studying with her. He was fairly interested in the girl he had met by the swimming pool, but then again, he was a sucker for anyone who complimented his swimming ability. Hopefully during this meeting, he could find out if she was interested, or even better, he could find out she wasn’t interested. It seemed that he cared more about the chase of a girl, than the girl herself, which was extremely loathsome, something that Darren admitted to, but it was something that only poker playing could compete with. His argument as to why he acted in such a way was that he was a “young man who needed to exercise his brain with puzzles, and what is more puzzling than a woman?”
So there he sat, leaning back in his chair, waiting for Basha Falstone to arrive.

Bea made her way to the library crutches and all. Yeah, she had actually wondered how bad it would be if she just didn’t use the crutches but that turned out to be a mistake. Her ankle was badly sprained and she should have known better but it was still annoying.
Bea wasn’t really sure what to think of Darren , yet. She was a bit cautious about such things but would probably get to know him better. Then she would know more. She opened the door to the library…well tried …some student saw her and played good Samaritan opening the door for her to which she thanked him.
She found the boy pretty quickly making her way towards the table, she sat down in the chair opposite him and took a breath. ”Hi, sorry I’m late.” Yes, that was Bea…even with the crutches the girl apologized for being late; even if she wasn’t’ really sure she was late.

Darren’s eyes grew wide at the sight of his tutor. “Holy crap, girl! What happened to you?” He made the motions of standing, but Bea had already taken a seat opposite, so he leant forward on his elbows and looked at her.
Though he was overcome with the surprise of seeing her in crutches, he still heard her apologize for being late. Darren had glanced at the clock only a few seconds earlier to find this wasn’t the case, but it didn’t seem important to correct her. He was more interested in finding out what happened to the pretty brunette, and how he could help her.

”I’ll tell you but please don’t laugh, it’s kind of a dumb way to get so injured. The other day, when it was raining I was walking down the bleacher stairs and slipped and fell. I somehow managed to badly sprain my ankle because of it.” The fact that she had injured that ankle previously probably didn’t help matters. Though that was the story, not that exciting.
She didn’t bother to look at the clock to see if she was late as it would have required turning around and she really didn’t feel like doing that besides it might have seemed rude. ”I’ll be all right though I just need to stay off of it for a few weeks.”

Darren raised his eyebrows as Bea told him the story of how she injured her ankle on the bleachers in the rain. “That’s not dumb. No, dumb would be if you decided to slide down the railing in the rain, and you’re definitely smarter than that.”
He smiled at her, and relaxed in his chair, draping himself in a lazy way. “I s’pose studying is an alright thing to do if you gotta stay off your feet. Just means I can’t help you with your swimming until you’re all fixed up.”
He was honestly upset about the fact that he didn’t get to return the favour of her helping him with math until she was healed, but that was another story. He had to get into the studying to get through the test before he could think about swimming, if that was possible.

Well, she supposed he was right but still she felt a little stupid for falling. ”Umm…your right that would be dumb and I wouldn’t do that.” Though she smiled at him.
”Unfortunately, that’s true. So, I guess we’ll just have to get to work on math.” Swimming was fun but yeah, she couldn’t for another few weeks.
Swimming could wait anyway, really math and tests were more important at the moment, well, probably if he wanted to do well on them. ”So, where would you like to start? Are there things you’re having more problems with?” All valid question and logical questions.

Darren nodded. Bea wouldn’t be in the water for some time, so until he could help her improve her swimming form, she’d have to help him with his poor mathematic skills. She asked if he was having trouble with anything in particular and Darren grinned. He turned to his backpack and pulled out his 480 page math textbook and put in on the table with a heavy thud.
“Yeah, actually.” The swimmer opened up to the first page of equations and pointed at the first question. “Everything from about here,” He flipped to the last page and pointed to the last equation, “to here.”
Darren closed the book and grinned again, obviously just joking around. It was true that he was pretty bad at any and all maths, but he was willing to give tutoring a shot, just so as he could pass his test. “The test is on quadratic equations. Not that I have any idea what a quadratic equation is in the first place, but I’d like to at least pass the test. Feel like trying to teach me what my math teacher couldn’t?”

Bea's raised a brow as the text book went thud against the table. It wasn't the first time she had tutored someone and gotten that same thud. So, she wasn't surprised.
Equations, that was usually a good portion of math at this level, so there was a lot of go over and frankly one afternoon wouldn't cover everything. Though the brunette understood he was joking and smiled at him.
The girl nodded to his question and flipped his text book around so it was facing her, finding the section on quadratic equations. "I think I help you with this. But to be honest I hate using the text book to tutor people. Text books are boring." Yes, Bea understood that.
The girl pulled out a sheet of paper, started writing on it. "Okay, well, first thing is this. Formula's are simply a way to get from point A to B really......"
(Time skip)
She spent a good amount of time going over the quadratic equation and how to do it but did it in such a way that it would hopefully be slightly more interesting to hi, relating it to more real life things. She then turned to him and asked. "So, do you want to try a problem on your own to see if you've gotten it?" That was really the only way she could be sure.

OOC: So sorry I've made you wait! Here's a reply!
When Bea broke down quadratic equations, Darren tried to focus, he really did, but something in his mind just wouldn’t let him understand it. Bea finished and asked him if he wanted to try one on his own and the boy’s eyes grew wide.
“Errr...” He blinked at the page. “I don’t know. I think I have a block against this stuff. I just really suck at math. Maybe we could do one together?”
Darren grinned sheepishly at Bea. He really was terrible at math, but he was willing to give it a shot. His parents were paying a lot of money to send him to the school, even with a partial scholarship, but there was no way he was going to mess it up by failing math. Not again at least. He had to at least pass every class, which wasn’t a problem for most of his classes, but math was a terror.

Seeing the expression on the boys face combined with what he said...well, maybe he wasn’t ready to go it alone. Bea could be extremely patient so it wasn’t as if this bothered her. ”Sure.” Looking at the book. ” How about this one?” She pointed to one of the problems.
Working though the problem she didn’t take over instead she went though it step by step, making sure he understood each part before moving on. When the equation had been solved, she turned to him. ”I think that a few more and you might have it. Do you want to do another one together?”

Darren nodded along, and tried to concentrate as hard as he could. He followed as Bea worked through the equation and asked if he wanted to do another together. “Nah, I think I’ll give it a shot on my own.”
The boy reached forward and gently pulled the pen from the girl’s hand and pulled the notepad closer to him. He leaned over the table, looking from the textbook to the pad, glancing up at Bea every so often to make sure she was watching. He hoped that he was getting it right, and grinned when he finished. It looked like it was right, but he needed to know for sure.
“Can you check this? Did I do it right?” Darren asked.

Well, here it goes, she supposed, hoping he understood it but willing to stay there until he did. She liked Darren he was very nice and she was certainly more than willing to help him. ”Okay,” Nodding.
She kept eye on his progress on the problem but waited until he was done before really checking it. Sure.” She responded to checking it.
The girl looked it over one more time to make sure she hadn’t and he hadn’t missed anything but as she did a smile slowly formed on her lips. ”It’s correct. All of it.” She smiled at him. ”Do you want to try one more to make sure. And if you get that one right …what do you say to getting some dinner?” They had been there a while and it was near that time, after all.

Darren grinned when he saw Bea smile. She replied that he was correct and a small wave of triumph came over the boy. “Awesome.” He said, looking down at his paper with a goofy grin.
“Yeah, okay. I’ll do another.” He looked back up at Bea. “And I’m glad you said that. I’m starving.”
Darren repeated his process of scribbling in the notepad, looking at the textbook, and periodically looking up at Bea for approval. Once he had finished, the Australian boy put down the pen and slid the notepad over to his tutor.
“So, you mentioned dinner?” He smiled.

The brunette girl smiled at the boy’s enthusiasm over getting the equation right. Math had just always come easy to her but she knew that people didn’t all have the same abilities and that was fine with her. She was glad that he seemed to like getting the answer correct, however.
She nodded to what he said, watching him as he took on another problem When the boy would look up she would nod, he seemed to be doing everything correct. He slide the problem over to her and she looked it over. ”You’ve got it. “ She had tutored before and usually that is the way it was, the person would get it and once they had it, it wasn’t so bad.
Dinner, right “Yes, I did.”[/b] She smiled back. With that the girl packed up her things and got up slowly, retrieving her crutches and then attempting to maneuver to grab her backpack. She couldn’t wait to get rid of her crutches. ”Okay, ready when you are.”
(OCC: if you want to feel free to either move to them to dinner or end the thread …just let me know. Thanks)
