Adelaide Peyroux stuck her hands in the pockets of her black hoodie and leant against the cold wall, distractedly. It was only last night that she had met the younger girl, dressed ever-so-inappropriately to a formal event, something that made the redhead laugh. The girl, Carmen, seemed to be quite shy, which was why Adelaide was surprised that she accepted her offer for a tour of the school. Every other time she had interacted with shy people, they either acted very defensively, like they didn’t need any help, or passive aggressively, like she was patronizing them. Carmen didn’t do either, which was a nice change, and Adelaide hoped they could get to know each other.
When the redhead first came to the school, she branched out as much as possible so as the creeping loneliness of being away from home didn’t swallow her whole. Luckily she found some nice people, along with some who were not-so-nice, and kept herself from wanting to return home. Hopefully, Adelaide could tuck Carmen under her wing and make her feel at home at the school.

Carmen looked as she usually did. She was wearing a baggy, Light blue sweater and a pair of faded blue jeans. It was a nice, Carmen thought. She didn't really stand out much, and people weren't really looking at her much, although Carmen still felt like people were plotting against her , or at the very least she felt like the were judging her every move.
She paused and stood about 15 feet away from Adelaide, she checked herself over again. Just as she'd been doing over and over again since leaving her dorm. Carmen thought she was dressed right, but she had thought she was dressed right last night too. It had turned out that she was supposed to wear a dress.
Carmen glanced over her left and right shoulder. She felt like someone was following her, but she hadn't spotted anyone. Biting her lip, Carmen began to walk the final stretch to her friend. She arrived and yanked on the black glove she was wearing, even though it was firmly stuck to at her right elbow already. Carmen smiled awkwardly as she walked up to Adelaide. Avoiding eye contact, Carmen quietly said "Hi."

At the sound of a small voice, Adelaide turned her attention to Carmen. She instantly smiled, seeing how cute and defenceless the smaller girl seemed, thought it probably wasn’t the case.
“Good morning, sunshine.” The redhead replied, pushing herself off the wall. “Ya’ ready for your grand tour?”
Adelaide didn’t wait for an answer and began to walk in the direction of the doors to the cafeteria. It being a Sunday around ten in the morning, there weren’t too many people around, except for the slow stream of people who walked in and out of the cafeteria doors, looking for a late breakfast or early lunch. Adelaide had already scrounged herself some food before coming to meet Carmen, but it seemed like the best place to go just in case the younger girl was hungry.
“Don’t expect anything interesting to be goin’ on any time soon.” Adelaide commented. “Everyone’s still tired from the Christmas party last night. Did you like it?”

Carmen followed Adelaide, moving quicker than usual to keep up. They seemed to be heading toward a pair of doors Carmen hadn't been through yet. She glanced behind her. Someone was watching her, She was sure of it.
The other girl began to talk about the Christmas party last night. Carmen listened intently but kept her eye's on the floor. She'd always found it to be a safe place to look. The Floor never got mad at her for staring at it or looking at it funny.
Carmen walked silently for a moment before answering Adelaide's question about the previous evening. "I've never really liked formal things." She mumbled quietly. Then paused for a moment and added in an even quieter mumble "It was good though, I met you."

Adelaide smiled when she heard Carmen’s reply that she was happy to have gone to the Christmas party as she had met the redhead. “Yeah, it was alright, wasn’t it?” Adelaide replied with a certain amount of volume in her voice, hoping that people didn’t think she were talking to herself due to the younger girl’s small voice. “I met you and Felicity, along with a couple of other folks. All in all, a good night.”
The two came to the Cafeteria doors, to which Adelaide help open for Carmen, and entered after her. “I’m a little peckish. Hope ya’ don’t mind.”
With it being late morning on a Sunday, there weren’t many people around, which was a plus. Adelaide reached into her little bag and pulled out a small thermos. “I was just gonna fill this with coffee and grab a Danish.” She walked to the coffee machine, expecting Carmen to follow her. “I guess this is the first stop on our tour. This is the Cafeteria. You’d be good to memorise where it is, or else you’ll end up like me on my first day here: couped up in my dorm room drinking energy drinks and eating power bars.”
