Felicitiy Skye had been dying to get out of the academy, however, being a new student, she had no clue where to go. She'd recently heard of the beach, and chose today to check it out. Before leaving, she'd donned her filmy white swimsuit cover and pink bikini, at the last minute adding her ridiculously hideous straw hat. She wasn't planning to meet anyone.
She had grabbed her basket, throwing her towel, sunscreen and a bottle of water into it before leaving, for which she was glad, reaching into her basket and grabbing it. She twisted the cap off, taking a sip, and then scanning the shore, glad that no one was here to see her geeky-yet, favorite-hat.
She pulled her towel out, glancing warily at the water, as always, afraid it was going to come out and attack her. She laid her towel out on the sand, sitting on it, and rubbing her coconut scented sunscreen all over her exposed skin. She laid back, staring at the clouds, painting pictures in her mind with them.
She clasped her hands over her pale stomach, breathing deeply, continuing to watch the clouds, singing gently under her breath. She sighed, closing her eyes, letting the warmth soak into her veins and consume her. Glad no one was around, allowing her to experience some peace and quiet...

Day times where usually full of either Lab time or Library hours for the the older scientist student. However they where interrupted every week or so with a field trip outside to gather more samples for a Biology study he was doing on the schools flora & fauna. So right now he was sitting a few meters up in an oak tree, back against the branch as he scrapped a some moss into a small sample jar.
"Right that's everything but the Algae now" he said to himself as he began to seal the jar and added it to the copious amount of other containers in his bag before closing it over after being sure they wouldn't jump about while he moved. Letting his legs hang off the edge of the branch, he took a moment before pushing off and falling to the ground with a dull thud and falling to his back. "Forgot how much that can hurt" he muttered as he got up and headed towards the beach.
But when he got to the edge of the beach he found he wasn't alone, rather a girl in a large hat laying on the sand that he shook his head to. Sure he could have offered a lecture on melanoma from papers he read but he wasn't a social person to most and didn't like to lord over others which led him just to remain quiet and head towards the Jetty at the water.
Kneeling onto the wooden planks a few yards in, he pulled out a fresh sample jar and reached into the water, feeling around for the plant life that he needed and seemed to be less compliant to be found, urging him to lean closer to the water looking for it.

Felicity heard someone moving around in the water only a few yards away, she opened her eyes and scanned the beach, looking for the source of the noise. It only took a moment to find him, a dark-haired boy leaning over the water, so close to it, his nose was almost submerged. She giggled at the-quite frankly-comical sight, clapping her hand over her mouth to hide the noise.
"Any closer and I'll have to get Darren to fish you out!" She called out to him, almost laughing at the memory of her pool fiasco, she shook her head, definitely hoping he could swim. She stood up and headed towards him, sitting beside him, opting to not leave him alone. He looked like a lonely person, and that made her sad.
She pulled her knees to her chest, watching him intently. He had some sand on his back, but she decided not to comment on that. Finally, she gave up trying to guess with him.
"What-um-what are you doing?" She asked curiously, tilting her head slightly to the right.

Crouching with his head nearly submerged in the water, Arkasel was struggling to find a sample near his grasp that wouldn't involve swimming to find at the jetty. But he found himself with a shock of a voice shouting out that dipped him a little closer to the lake so his nose went under and he pulled back quickly, snorting the water out before looking up to the girl. ”I can swim just fine if anything goes wrong” he called back as he went back to trying to find the elusive plant under the dock.
But the vibrations against the wood told him that the girl was heading his way as he finally felt a frond of the plant and his grin grew slowly as the girl sat down and he felt his fingers find the stalk. Then came the question of what he was doing as he moved further down the plant, ”Trying to get a sample of the plant life in the lake, notoriously tricky to get hold of” he said before he finally got it and managed to break it off and lifted it up above the water.
Setting it down on the dock he filled the jar with water from the lake before putting the plant into it and sealing to top. ”Nightmare but totally worth the effort” he said after a moment as he grinned at his new found prize.

"It looks slimy." Felicity said with a giggle, adjusting her ridiculously large and ugly hat. She wondered if she should take it off, maybe she was making a bad impression. It didn't matter now, though, he'd already seen her.
She leaned over the water, reaching in and trying to catch a fish. "Come here you little bugger!" She said, laughing, "My name's Felicity." She added, chasing the fish around with her small hand, trying to capture him.
"What's yours?" She asked, looking up at him with bright, brown eyes. She reached over with her dripping wet hand and brushed the sand from his back, hoping to make another new friend. She flashed her prettiest smile at him, before returning to her fish.
"And I can't swim." She added as an afterthought, hoping he wouldn't push her in now, 'cause that would be sort of mean.

Sitting with his new prize happily held up in the air, the girl mentioned it looked slimy with a laugh as he gave a small chuckle with the grin still stuck on his face. ”Yeah it is but that's why I needed it” he said as he turned the jar around in the sunlight as he examined it to see he'd gotten a near perfect specimen.
Opening his bag beside him and placing the jar in with the others, the girl had reached closer to the water trying to catch a fish and swore at him. ”You won't catch it like that, pressure currents from the water splaying through your fingers and around the edge of your hand force it out of range” he said before pulling out a notebook and adding in the samples name, date and time from the tree and lake.
The girl suddenly opened up by offering her name as she continued after the fish before asking for his and looking up to him. He looked up from his pad and tapped the pencil end on it twice before turning to her, ”Arkasel” he replied before flickering a small signature scrawl on the pad and considered his next note time.
Quickly Felicity added after that she couldn't swim as she went after the fish to which he raised an eyebrow. ”Probably not wise to be near this deep water then... Not thought of learning while your here?” he replied, asking back curiously as to why she couldn't. He'd learned when he was young but he used the pool occasionally at the school, not exactly proud of being pale skinned and fairly lean and advertising it in board shorts to the while school.

"Why do you need something slimy?" The small girl asked, looking up at the bigger boy. "Can I poke it? Or will it kill it?" She asked, staring wide-eyed at the plant inside the jar she stopped going after the fish when he said it wouldn't help.
"Oh, well what will make me catch the fish? Like, without a fishing pole? I've had one too many fish hooks in my face." She said tapping a scar on her lower face, just below her lips. "I ripped it out." She added, explaining the length of the scar.
"Ark-a-sel?" She asked, enunciating each syllable, the way she'd been taught in acting class. "Where are you from?" She added, the name was uncommon, yet totally awesome to her.
"I'll be fine, as long as you don't push me." She said looking up at him seriously for a couple seconds, then a grin broke out on her face. She chuckled. "I'm being swim-tutored by this pretty boy, Darren..." She tapped her lower lip, groping for the swimmer's last name. "Darren-I'm-Not-Exactly-Sure-What-His-Last-Name-Is."
"What's your talent? I'm guessing something to do with slimy things." She said with a laugh, looking up to meet the boy's eyes. She smiled brightly at him.

Arkasel explained that one of the reasons he needed the plant was for it's slime and Felicity asked what for. ”As the fish that live around the jetty feed off it and it seems to help with their health” he replied before she asked further at the plant. ”I'd rather you not, it wouldn't kill it but it might affect it's growth in the future” he replied as he put it away before telling her she wouldn't catch a fish in her current method as she queried what would and a little bit of history.
”Ouch... Not a pleasant experience I can assume” he replied as he cupped his hands together and split between the middle and ring finger of his right hand at the back. ”If you do that by forcing the water through the back you create a vacuum. It'll suck the fish in and all you have to do is close your hand over” he offered with a slight demonstration. He preferred to use a net but at the school he didn't always have that luxury and had eventually figured out a method to do the job for him.
She offered her name and in return he gave his as she tried to break it down, something he appreciated since most people took things right away and didn't look at them at all. ”Ireland” he replied with a nod, his accent doing as I did with all them when it came to saying their countries name.
He asked why she was near the water if she couldn't swim and she told him she was ok so long as he didn't push her. ”Now why would I want do that?” he queried, wondering if he came off as looking like the kind of jerk who would. She explained she was learning to swim after he asked, by an apparently good looking guy called Darren that she couldn't remember the last name of. ”Well that should help you out here then” he replied with a nod.
Then came the question of the reason they where there, her guessing his involved slime while laughing. ”Only partially... I'm a scientist, Biology, Chemistry, Physics the works. Just only the first has the slime” he replied with a small grin. ”Yourself?”

Felicity looked up at him, a sad look on her pretty face. "Why would you take away the fish's food?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing sadly. She shook her head, not quite comprehending why someone would want to kill an innocent creature.
"It wasn't pleasant, and now my face looks weird." She said, feeling insecure about her looks. She'd always been pretty, but the scar had thrown her off. She bit her lip, and imitated the shape he made with his hands, the fish sucked into her hands, and she closed them around him, letting him go with a quick squeak.
"He's slimy!" She exclaimed, laughing and looking up at the bigger boy. She shuddered, and pulled out her bottle of water, taking a sip. "Do you want some?" She asked, holding the bottle out to the older boy.
"Ireland's pretty, I've been there." She said, smiling brightly. "I live in America, though." She said, brushing her dark hair behind her shoulders, a slight smile playing at her face.
"It would, if I wasn't petrified of water." She said with a pathetic chuckle.
"I'm an actress. I suck at science." She added, she was really awful at it.

The girl turned and question him as to why he would take the food away, looking like she thought he was a monstrous animal tester. ”I'm not, there's thousands of plants down there. I'm just trying to find out what it is in this that affects them” he replied. He wasn't a fan of animal testing in the slightest but he knew it had to be done at times, though he'd never be part of it rather finding out what of their environment made differences.
She told him of the fish hook as she looked away while trying to follow his instructions. ”I can imagine... You don't look weird at all by the way” he replied after a moments pause. ”In case you where worrying” he added after before she managed to catch the fish with a squeak. ”I'd expect that, that's what the plant helps with to escape bigger fish” he replied before she offered him a swig of her drink.
”I'm ok thanks, I've got my own” he replied as he lifted out his own bottle, this time actually filled with water rather than his lab distilled Vodka. He took a sip from his own bottle as she told him she'd come from the U.S. ”Aye it's ok, nothing spectacular but” he replied about his home country, ”Never been to the states but who knows when I'm done here” he said after with a shrug as he put his bottle away.
”Got to face the fears someday, only way to beat them” he replied to her fear, he had his own in winding up like his dad. He was determined never to wind up like him though the way things where going that would be simple enough since he could seal himself off from the world. She offered back that she was an actress and didn't share his strength in the world of logistics. ”It's not for everyone I know”

"Oh, I was going to have to smack you." She said quietly. Looking at the fish that swam around beneath her hands, they were kind of cute. She poked one gently and laughed as it swooshed to the side. "Fishes are funny." She said looking up at Arkasel with a smile.
"Except for this," she disagreed, tapping the big scar beneath her lower lip. "I'm sure it wasn't the smartest to rip it out of my face." She added. But it had hurt, and she didn't want it to anymore. She looked up at the flawless boy and sighed. Everyone at this school was so amazingly perfect. "How's it help them escape the bigger fish? If they're slimy, they'll slide down the creature's throat easier." She sad, thinking about the various scenarios.
"Yeah," she agreed about the "facing your fears" speech. She looked up at him, again, squinting at the sunlight. "What's your biggest fear?" She asked. "I think my biggest fear he being murdered in a brutal and torturous way." She added helpfully. Wanting to get to know this boy.

After offering that he had no intent of destroying the fish's natural home the girl seemed happily surprised that she didn't have to smack him. It made him raise an eyebrow as he realised she must have been an animal lover to a major degree, watching as she played with the fish only further strengthened the thought as she told him fish where funny. ”They are strange creatures I must say...” he replied, thinking of all the different types he had read of and the traits from far and wide over the globe.
She added an exception pointing to her scar and telling him essentially she had ripped it out which made him wince a little. ”Yeah, I would have gone for a pair of snip neck pliers to cut it in half and slide it out without catching myself” he replied. He had his own share of scars but none from something like that, more along the lines compass stab wounds, broken ruler cuts and belt buckles from school beatings. She was a curious girl and asked how the plant's effect would help as it would surely make it more difficult to escape.
”Ah but that's only if it catches it. The slime is a form of lubricant that makes it trickier to catch, if the predator bit down to catch it it would simply slide away out. It becomes incredibly difficult to catch unless you got it spot on and even then it also makes I taste less pleasant which offers an escape route” he replied, before realising he had gone into a minor lecture reply as he bit his bottom lip and went quiet again. He just couldn't control his brain sometimes around the subject that meant so much to him.
When he spoke of facing fears she agreed before jumping right at him and asking his own which left him a little off guard as she went further and told him hers. It was slightly disturbing and made him wonder if there was a slight chemical imbalance in her brain to make her seem so cheery with such a disturbing thought. ”... Needle's I'd have to say...” he replied after a moment before shuddering and rubbing the back of his neck, remembering one particularly bad incident involving sowing needles, pins, a few hypodermic ones from the labs and a rather mean group of kids back at his old school.
”But yours sounds a little bit more rational” he added after with a weak chuckle.

"I was raised on a farm." She said, answering the boy's raised eyebrow. "Causing me to love animals." She shifted her position so her feet were resting just under the water. She screeched and giggled as the fish nibbled at her toes. "It tickles." She conceded, nibbling her lip slightly.
"Actually I was hanging out with my best friend, he was a dude, and told me it wouldn't hurt." She said, giggling awkwardly, she felt so small and stupid compared to this boy, who made her self confidence waver and shake. Something seemed off about him, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"Um.." She hadn't followed most of what the boy had said, but pretended as though she had. She avoided his eyes. "You make me feel kind of stupid." She confessed quietly. She'd never been the smartest, but next to him she felt dumb.

Felicity offered her reason for loving animals as she did being that growing up on a farm you where bound to eventually. He'd always envied those with such backgrounds, so much nature to explore and enjoy while he was trapped in the dull, conformist city that held almost nothing to him. She moved to the water and yelped loudly as she mentioned it tickling about the fish. ”I'd expect it to, they lack teeth of any variety” he replied as he swung himself round on a hand from kneeling to sitting cross legged on the pier near her.
She explained why she had ripped it out instead of the calmer option, of course he should have expected a guy to have done it. ”Ouch, still that's a hell of a cut to take” he replied still wincing at the idea of it and unconsciously rubbing at his left shoulder and the memory of ripping a compass out of it when he was Thirteen. School kids could always make the most ingenious weaponry from next to nothing.
When she asked of how the slime helped he wound up moving into a near lectorial mode before he froze and bit at his lip to try and hold it all back. ”Sorry, I get a little carried away with it sometimes” he said quietly before she spoke after in a hushed tone that made him look to the planks in shame. ”Sorry... Academics aren't everything but” he replied as he failed to look up still, instead staring through to the water beneath as he racked his brain for ideas. ”You probably know more than I ever could about some things... Like social skills” he added after, a small chuckle after at the thought of ever acquiring such things.

"Do they have a tongue?" The small girl asked, suddenly curious in the fish of the pond, she took of her floppy hat, her dark, wavy hair blowing around her face, framing it like a dark halo. She offered him a shy smile, she'd never actually realized how much smaller she was then him, she rarely did until people were close to her. She nibbled her lower lip gently watching as he subconsciously rubbed his shoulder as she told him about the fish hook.
She knew enough about psychology to figure out that he was remembering something. She looked up at him, her dark eyes meeting his. It was a way she got people to trust her, to like her. "What'd you do to your shoulder?" She asked, yawning and stretching her arms above her head, she arched her back as she did so. She smiled lightly as her spine popped and then grinned at Ark.
"I think I'm gonna call you Arky!" She announced, another smile gracing her face. This was definitely the beginning of a friendship for her, she wasn't so sure about him, though. Maybe he didn't like her? She was almost afraid to find out. Generally, quieter people steered away from her, considering she was so social and loud.
"Well, I need social skills. I'm an actress." She said in response to his comment about her knowing more in it. "And, honestly, you don't seem bad at it."

The girl was abound with curiosity it seemed, asking if they had tongues when lacking teeth. Most would have just nodded and not said much further yet she seemed to press on. "Yes, though they're quite small compared to themselves" he replied as he watched her smile slightly before continuing with her fish hook story that stirred up the pot of memories.
He stopped rubbing his shoulder after a moment when she fixed eye contact and asked what he'd done to it, trying to feign innocence with a yawn and stretch. "I fell off a wall when I was a kid and got a little bit banged up" he replied as he looked away for a moment towards the floor.
It didn't last very long as she spoke again with a definition of a new name for him and a large cheeky smile that made him think she was actually happy near him which still seemed like an impossible foreign concept. "I'm used to Mr Redfield or Arkasel... But I guess Arky could be ok" he replied, trying to offer a hand in friendship and unsure if he was failing miserably.
He made a mention after she spoke of his knowledge that she had skills he couldn't hope to possess, like how to deal with people. She agreed that she needed them but tried to counter that he wasn't as bad as he thought. "Thanks but I know I don't fit the norm on it, you should see how bad it can be at large events" he replied quietly with a soft shrug.
