These are the rules attached to our site, so please read and follow them carefully. If you are caught breaking any of these, you will get a warning. If you break the rules three times in a row, you will be banned for a week. If it continues after that, you'll be band permanently. Any changes to the rules won't necessarily be announced (unless major), so check back if you notice a new post to this thread. This is your responsibility to keep up with the rules.
ONE
APPLICATION
Before you begin to post, you must, and I mean must post your application in the application board, and you have to wait until you're approved by admin! This must be posted via an account, not as a guest. This is a simple, and very obvious rule, but needs to be said. Also, make your application as detailed as possible- there is more chance there won't be anything wrong with it if you're detailed (no need to be descriptive in the 'basics' section though).
Also, there is one character per account, so if you're going to be making a new character, please create a new account before applying for them, however we like for people to wait about 3 weeks or so before creating a new character, just so we can get to know you a bit and your style of writing. If you wish to make a new character within 3 weeks of your first one, message an admin and ask, and we’ll see what we can do.
TWO
MATURITY
Although this is a mature website, excessive swearing and sex threads will not be tolerated. Swearing should be used only when necessary (e.g. in a heated argument), and if it is used regularly throughout your threads, you'll get a warning. As for sex, it is currently banned. This doesn't rule out kissing/snogging/making out, but it does limit how far you can go. To put it simply, as soon as the clothes start to come off, STOP, because you will be given a warning or possibly banned. And as for drugs and alcohol, they are accepted, but if a teacher catches you, expect detention- just like real school.
THREE
GOD MODDING
Also, God Modding is a big no no. God Modding is when one character does something to control another.
For example:
Don't: James punched Joe in the face, causing Joe to fall backwards and hit his head.
Do: James punched Joe as hard as he could in the face, and watched as Joe reacted to the blow.
God Modding is a big one, so if you're caught doing it you'll be warned.
FOUR
POSTING
When writing in a thread, you must talk in third person. Not first, not second, but third. You should give your character's thoughts and opinions on things, but not others. But that's just like God Modding.
For example:
First Person: I walked down the corridor slowly, in a bad mood from the conversation I had with James earlier.
Third Person: Jane walked down the corridor slowly. She was in a bad mood from the conversation she'd had with James earlier.
It's that simple.
Also, while we don't have a word count, you are required to post a significant amount of writing for a post. For an opening post (first few posts of a tread) you should be writing at least 250 words, that's not even three paragraphs. That's not a lot, especially for opening a post. From then on, we expect at least 100 words per post (that's only a paragraph!), but we don't want to have to restrict you with a word count. If we are finding a lot of unsubstantial posts, a word count will be put into place of 100 words. Just use your judgement, if you can give the other character enough to reply to in 100 words, then great! If not, try again.
As for punctuation, try and use the correct kind, please. We understand that typos can happen from time to time, and we will take that into consideration, but please try and proof read your posts before hitting that little 'post reply' button. To pick up on any other little things you may have missed (such as apostrophes, commas, capitals, etc) just copy your post into a Word document and it will pick up on all that. If you're seen with a lot of punctuation problems regularly, you will be asked to fix them.
FIVE
CHARACTERS
As the characters on this site should have a special talent that is somewhere in the categories of Creative and Performing Arts, Sporting and Academic, they should only have one real gift. For example, if they are an amazing singer, they shouldn't be a good cross runner too, or if they excel in mathematics, they shouldn't be able to act. Although they can be good at other activities, they should limit their talents and gifts to one and that will be the one they focus on. This is all explained in the application, but I thought I'd make it clear in the rules too.
Also, your character can't be all knowing and all powerful- they have to have flaws, this is why we have included the 'strengths' and 'weaknesses' section in the application. Everyone has their weaknesses, even fake people.
SIX
FACE CLAIM
So this one is a little tricky and can possibly be bent at times. When it comes to face claim/character models, try and get a person that isn't famous for the category your character is in. Put simply, if your character is a singer, don't have Hayley Williams as your character model, try and get someone that doesn't sing and is famous for something else. The reason for this rule is so that when in a thread with your character, the person you are RPing with will feel like they are with your character and not the celebrity. This is a little different if your character excels in drama. As actors and actresses are seen in many different films/TV shows, you are allowed to have an actor/actress as your character model if your character is a drama student. Like I said, this rule may be bent on occasion, but when choosing a face, try and obey this rule before coming to us with someone we may say no to. Also, keep the age of your character in mind when picking a face claim. You can't have Johnny Depp playing a 17 year old, it just won't work. Granted there are photos of him when he was younger, so sure, but don't get a photo of a celebrity that is 10 years older than your character and try and pull it off. It won't happen, sorry.
Be sure you pick a human/celebrity as your face claim, strictly no anime.
Also, be sure to have your graphics ready to post for when we accept you. All avatars should be 150x200 pixels. Signatures haven't got a set size, but nothing huge that will stretch the board. Keep it within reason.
SEVEN
ACTIVITY
Activity is very important to this site. We understand that while there aren't many users at the moment, activity is expected to be quite low, but as we grow, we want your activity to too. Active would be starting a new topic very 2 weeks, unless you're in multiple active threads already, and try and get on every 5 days or so at least. It really sucks when people sit around for a week or so waiting for you to reply.
Also, if you intend on leaving the site tell an admin! Nothing sucks more than people just falling off the face of the planet. Also, with that, if you're going away for a significant amount of time, tell and admin. It will take 2 minutes of your time to and you won't be warned for low activity.
EIGHT
FUN
Be sure to have fun. If you aren't having fun, then something's not right. Please feel free to talk to the admin and ask any questions, or give any suggestions you may have.
I understand this may feel like a lot, but it really isn't. Most RPG sites have the same rules- or ones along the same lines- so please keep these in mind and PM the admin with any questions!
Enjoy your stay at Desrosiers' School for the Gifted and Talented.
