Arkasel had only just arrived back after spending near three months back in his home country that he wanted to try and put behind him. As far as he was concerned this was his home for now and after that he would be off to wherever the hell accepted him when he graduated. Right now he was fresh back after meeting the young gifted Harpist Adelaide and with a little buzz from the music and conversation that had made his day a lot better. That and being a bit tipsy had helped though he intended to get thoroughly thrashed that night before sleeping so he’d be capable of getting a proper night’s sleep.
He was now in his dorm and unpacking the large duffle bag into the drawers as he glanced around to the other four beds. So far it seemed he was the only male academic in that dorm though he’d heard a few voices in the other ones along the floor. Giving a groan as he stood up, he stuck a half a dozen folders onto the shelves near his bed that looked like they were ready to burst from sheets covered in scriblings of numbers and letters. ”Finally bloody done” he said as he dibbed down to his back and lifted out the clear bottle and took a large swig back that made him recoil his face in disgust.
”Ok, that needs diluted a little more” he said with a bitter snap at the air before he headed into the bathroom and quickly filled the empty quarter of the bottle up to the brim with water from the tap before taking another swig and giving a gasp of enjoyment. ”Now that is perfect” he said with a laugh as he slid it back into his pocket and headed back into the room to read through the newest paper he’d gotten from the library on his way back up.

After dragging himself and his duffle bag up the many flights of stairs, Aidan finally made it to the corridor with the academic students' dorms running off it. After shoving his head into a few different rooms, which were either full or occupied by younger people than himself, Aidan finally found a room which appeared to only have one bed that was taken, the rest empty. As he stepped into the room, Aidan looked around, 4 free beds and one with a bag sitting next to it. He threw his bag onto an empty bed next to the window and unzipped it as he heard a noise from across the room.
Aidan hadn't noticed him upon arrival, but a tall, dark head boy was standing near the bathroom door. He didn't seem like one of those goody-two-shoes types who would be against Aidan bringing alcohol onto the grounds or smoking out the window from time to time, and so the first impression was definitely a positive one.
"Uh, hi," Aidan muttered, taking a step towards the boy as he reached out his hand, attempting to make his own good first impression. "I'm Aidan Bridges, maths un-enthusiast." Even though he was incredibly intelligent and always got straight As, Aidan didn't enjoy studying or doing his homework, hence him being sent to a place like Desrosiers' where his parents believed his talent would be 'nurtured' and he'd possibly stop skipping class. Aidan, however, didn't see what difference it would make.

After cleaning up his stuff and getting it organised, Arkasel felt that he had earned a drink and done so fairly only to discover the ratio of alcohol to dilution was not that great and sent him straight to the bathroom to balance it out. A slurp of water from the tap helped as well to clear his taste buds as he took a drink again and spoke quietly in joy at it working out after all before heading back to the dorm. What he hadn't expected on his way to read the paper was for someone new to have joined him, leaving him slightly confused as he moved closer with an extended hand.
He gave his name and a reason for being there, tongue in cheek about being un-enthusiastic as Arkasel took his head and shook it firmly twice and stopped after. "Arkasel Redfield, Scientist" he replied as he headed on to his bed as he picked up the paper and a pen from the floor next to it. "First year here? Haven't seen you around before" he asked as he kicked his feet up onto the bed and sat looking at the crossword that was open. Granted he had problems spelling and writing but he enjoyed it and it helped to try and teach himself further to improve upon them.

The boy took Aidan's hand firmly and introduced himself, Aidan finding the boy's name quite interesting. Although curious, he held back his intentions to ask where it was from, and moved to his bed instead, sitting on the edge of it. He turned to his bag and started to rummage through it in search for the book he had been reading on the plane. Although he didn't enjoy reading for school, if he could find a decent book or two, he'd get straight into them, finding them useful when he couldn't get to sleep.
"Uh yeah, first year here, parents thought it would motivate me to do my work if I went somewhere that specialised in my talent," Aidan replied with a scoff, finding the book and placing it on his bed side table for after he'd unpacked and settled in. "I really don't see that happening, but I commend them for trying."
The book Aidan was reading was Heavier Than Heaven, the biography of Kurt Cobain, which he had picked up at the airport before he left California. Aidan always enjoyed Nirvana's music and was interested in Kurt's life, so he grabbed the book while waiting to board and hadn't put it down the entire flight.

So the awkward introductions where done and the two had exchanged names and talents, thankfully that was the worst of it over with now and all Ark had to do was hide his booze until he knew if the other guy was safe enough to trust with the knowledge of it. Sitting down to start working on the crossword he asked if Aidan was in first year to which he agreed and gave his reasoning for being there.
The scoff alone told Ark that he held a little bit of arrogance about it but that usually meant they where exceptionally good with self-conceit. "You may say that now but trust me you won't soon. When I came here I thought I knew everything this place could tell me outside of a library and independent research. Have to study every night now just to keep up at times and on top of my game" he replied as he scribbled an answer on the page.
"Seven letters for base in R & Dna... Adenine" he said to himself as he mused the question, the things always taking him a few moments to get

Aidan began to unpack his bag, pulling out his clothes and moving them to the set of drawers on the other side of his bed from where Arkasel's bed was. He pushed his t-shirts and jeans in the bottom drawer, knowing he wouldn't be using them all that much, and put his white, button up shirts in the top drawer along with his trousers and tie. He didn't like the idea of this school being one that enforced uniforms, he was much more comfortable in his regular clothing, especially when being somewhere he didn't particularly want to be.
"It's not that I think I know everything, I just have very little desire to do homework and study," Aidan corrected the boy as he pulled out what books he brought and placed them on top of the set of drawers in three small piles. "I'm a self proclaimed lazy bastard, and it's a shame that I'm so good at maths because it really was wasted on someone not so deserving."
The topic of being lazy and not deserving of his gift was a regular conversation for Aidan, he seemed to have had it at least 5 times before he left for France, his teachers and friends asking why he was leaving- the teachers weren't so surprised. Aidan wouldn't have minded having the drive to go to class everyday, but he just couldn't bring himself to enjoy it. He found maths so easy that he breezed through his work in class long before anyone else was finished and would thus spend the rest of the lesson sitting in class on his phone or 'at the bathroom'. He got bored easily and would much prefer to read over the notes in his own time and not go to class, his teachers, on the other hand, didn't like this idea.

It would have looked like a normal room to anyone who mistakenly walked past the door and took a look into it. One academic unpacking his clothes and things as he got settled into the place he'd call home for a while longer, while the other sat looking as if this didn't phase him at all. What they would need a few more moments staring to gather was that one was an alcoholic with a bottle of home made moonshine hidden in a plastic bottle on his table and the other looked like he belonged in a magazine shoot. But then again at the school that was something often overlooked, gifts came in a multitude of manners.
"That's a fair enough approach, I can understand the homework myself since most of it tends to be repetitive drivel that some can't grasp but Studying in always good. Maybe not with mathematics but I find chemical reactions and such to often offer up a surprise" he replied, dropping the paper down in front of him so he could see over it to his roommate with a shrug before lifting it back up and scribbling in yet another answer. Aidan had more to say however as he called himself a lazy bastard and a shame that he had the mathematical gift rather than someone who deserved it instead.
"What can I say, Genetics work via a basis off odds and percentages as well as dominance and recessiveness that's furthered by preselected..." replied Ark before he realised he was about to go off on a tangent and stopped, lowering the paper again. "Shit happens, you got lucky with the way things worked out. Try and find a way to use it you find entertaining, god knows I'd go mad if I was testing engine stability for the rest of my life" he added after, reaching over to his bottle and removing the cap to take another swig from it.

As the boy spoke, Aidan pulled out his pencil case, geometry set and calculator and placed them beside the pile of books, staring at the items for a moment. They all served him well, helped him measure, so difficult equations, write out working, but none of them thrilled him, they didn't capture his attention as a good book or upbeat rock song did. He was too interesting to be interested by these objects, and never bored enough to become bored with them. He wished he could love maths like some did, especially as much as those with such talents as his, but that seemed incredibly unlikely and far off.
"I just don't know why I have to do the same thing I just did in class only two hours prior," Aidan replied in relation to homework, "it's as drilled in as it ever will be, stop trying to force it down my throat." Aidan then realised he was becoming quite harsh and personal with someone he'd only just met, which was something he never did. He wasn't sure if it was because he was so passionate about not doing work or because he was tired, jet lagged and half delirious, either way, he was saying what ever came to his mind first.
"Yeah, it's a bit ironic really, being given such a gift that isn't appreciated one bit by the beholder," Aidan replied as he watched Arkasel take a swig from a bottle he pulled from beside him. Aidan would have happily bet his entire savings account that it was alcoholic, but his curiosity was burning and he had to ask what it's contents was. "So what are we drinking?" In saying 'we', Aidan didn't mean himself as well as Arkasel, he simply wanted to sound as casual as possible without being too nosy.

The conversation between the two carried on, the both of them trying to find an explanation for the reasoning that Aidan had that it was not worth his time there. Obviously the school thought otherwise but Arkasel knew that if it came down to personal views and control for him staying that his new room mate probably wouldn't last to long unless he wanted to. He tried to offer that while some pieces could be dull that the homework and research helped to keep the students busy.
Aidan fired back that there was no point in doing it since they had just done it in the class before and that it would be as well stored as it could ever be and to leave it at that in an angrier tone that made Ark raise an eyebrow. ”Completely false... Sorry but your brain works on constant reinforcement of data input...... Think covering a floor in several coats of varnish instead of trying to do a big thick one right at the start” he replied as he filled in another answer. ”But yeah, sometimes it does get boring as hell being repetition. Hence why I leave it for as long as I can to try and keep the brain thinking” he added after, realising the testosterone in the room seemed to be sky rocketing in a short space of time.
”Human nature, we want what we can not have and we have that which we no longer want” he replied as the new boy told him of the irony being one not to enjoy his gift. Though he was rather surprised whilst taking a drink as he asked what he had, knocking back a small chunk into his lung that took a moment to cough up after. ”Heavily Diluted, Fractal four layer distilled Ethanol... Not going to get a good bottle of spirits anywhere near here now am I?” he replied as he set it back on the counter, lid still at the side.
”Feel free to risk it... Might burn your throat but if your not used to it so I'd be careful” he added after to be safe since he actually liked the new guy for his interest.

Aidan both enjoyed and very much disliked having someone so strong minded in his room; while he liked having someone to discuss things with, he hated being told he was wrong, especially on such a subject as his education. He'd had many arguments on the topic before and did not need another one to be added to the list, especially when the challenger had the same old things to say. Aidan brushed it off as Arkasel replied, though, agreeing with Aidan mildly. Aidan simply shrugged in reply, not wishing to continue the conversation; he was simply too intrigued as to what his roommate had smuggled into the grounds to care much for it anymore.
"Ethanol?" Aidan questioned, picking up the bottle and examining it, swirling it around and taking a sniff. The smell alone burned his nostrils and throat, and he gladly put the bottle back down next to Arkasel again. Aidan shook his head lightly and approached his bag, digging around to the bottom of it, grabbing a hold of two large glass bottles. "If you're going to do something wrong, do it right," Aidan said simply as he pulled out a bottle of Jim Beam and Jack Daniel's, holding them up in front of him for Arkasel to look at.
Aidan had managed to con his twenty-one year old cousin into buying him the two bottles before he left Georgia two days prior. While Aidan had to pay an extra $20 commission, the alcohol was definitely worth it as he was sure he wouldn't be finding a bottle shop anywhere near the school that would sell him anything.

Between most teenage males there was always the fight for dominance from testosterone rushing around the body and a need to prove manliness... At that very moment in time the intellectual version seemed to be taking place on who knew what was best for them about school and the both of them seemed to not be very happy on the topic when they knew it would go no where but trouble. He was glad that the boy decided to answer halfly with a shrug, it removed the tension from the both of them and allowed the conversation to flow onwards about alcohol.
Aidan questioned what he meant as he lifted the bottle to swirl and sniff, "Pure Distilled Alchohol, Essentially a thimble of that is in a bottle of beer" he replied as Aidian tugged back in distaste of it and set the bottle down as he headed for his bag. "It's an acquired thing" he said with a shrug before taking a swig from it and continuing his crossword until Adian spoke once more. Ark looked up to see the two bottles and raised a curious eyebrow, "Don't know about that... Alcohol's not meant to taste good, it's an inhibitor and memory blocker. Not something to gurgle" he said as he looked the bottles over.
He was a whiskey man himself back home but that was Irish & Scottish, he'd never taken a liking to Bourbon since it was far to sweet. "That and I can at least hide mine in the open and just call it a stain thinner if anyone asks" he added after, remembering one famous excuse of calling it nail varnish remover and actually being believed.

Arkasel's description of his alcohol was not at all appealing to Aidan; while he enjoyed forgetting about his worries and such, he didn't want to drink something that would burn his throat and create such discomfort that the will to continue drinking would be lost. As his roommate commented on how the taste of alcohol is irrelevant, it's all about it's affects on one's mind and body, Aidan dropped his arms and turned towards his chest of drawers.
"I have to disagree," Aidan retorted, opening the second drawer and pushed the bottles to the back of it, becoming surround and engrossed by the many pairs of underwear and socks . "I like to enjoy myself while I lose my inhibitions, I don't want to have the very skin of my throat singed off just to get drunk quicker." While Aidan attempted to add humour, he was being quite serious and truthful in his explanation. Why drink if you can't enjoy the taste? It was a ridiculous concept to Aidan who believed the tastier the alcohol the more he will drink, and the more he drinks the quicker he can get drunk. The simple circle of getting intoxicated.
"As for hiding my bottles, that's easy," Aidan shrugged, tapping the top of the set of drawers before sitting down on his bed. "I put them in my underwear drawer; female teachers aren't legally allowed to look in there and male teachers are usually too awkward to even think of the prospect of looking through a student's underwear collection. " Aidan had only ever been caught with alcohol by a teacher once, and it was incredibly weak, so he was able to pass it off as medicinal. He was lucky that the teacher was thick and rather small minded, and also that he was 14 at the time, so his alcohol was hardly half as strong as what he enjoys now 3 years later.

Arkasel had given his view on alcohol and it seemed his roommate had a different view on the subject all together in that he rather preferred to enjoy himself when drinking and that he didn't want his throat burnt of whilst doing it. Arkasel merely gave a shrug as he took another drink, "I've grown to rather like the taste of Ethanol, but I don't see the point on wasting flavouring on it. It has a well known effect and doesn't need any further instigation in highly sugar filled drinks containing it and making people knock it back faster than they can handle" he replied as he shook his head gently from the strength.
He then went on to explain his method of hiding them behind his personals since no female teacher could look their legally and male ones could be in trouble for it. It made Arkasel give a single burst of a chuckle as he shook his head, "Believe me, if they really want to make sure they'll turn this place upside down and dismantle the drawers" he replied before lifting his paper up again. "Though Academics are the least likely chosen for inspections. They think we're to much of a set of goody-two-shoes" he added after, knowing to well of the times he'd been checked and the apologies after for their apparent paranoia when he'd merely hidden the bottles in the toilet cistern.

Aidan shrugged lightly, thinking it best to end the conversation, not wanting to begin an argument with his only roommate, as of yet. He didn't want to spend a year trying to avoid someone he'd need to see quite frequently. "To each his own, I suppose," Aidan replied simply, hoping to end the subject of alcohol taste. He liked it to taste nice, Arkasel didn't seem to care so much, they'd have to agree to disagree; something Aidan hated to do.
"Yeah, I get the feeling we're supposed to be the sensible type," Aidan commented on the academic stereotype, sitting down one his bed and picking up his book, flicking to the page he was up to. "I really don't like that idea." While he wasn't so much of a 'bad boy', in the sense that he didn't graffiti or deface things or disrespected females, he didn't want to be branded with the title of being a good boy, or goody-two-shoes, as Arkasel put it. Due to past experiences at his previous school, it was obvious that he definitely wasn't like this, but as he was at Desrosiers' for academic reasons, he knew what would be expected of him. I think it's time to change that mindset, Aidan thought to himself as he found his spot in his book.

The conversation between the two academics had moved on to the way they liked their alcohol to which it seemed their views contrasted together. It seemed that neither was willing to budge on their views on how alcohol should be drank and eventually the new student agreed that it was to each their own as Arkasel nodded. "Wiser word's yet not spoken" he agreed as he flicked the page and wrote the answer to yet another chain in the crossword on the page.
Arkasel warned him how the Academics seemed the least likely to be searched compared to the other branches of the school since they seemed the most stereotypical of a good student. Aidan agreed on the feeling that they where meant to be sensible as he prepared his book and that he didn't like the idea so much. "Who does? No-one wants to be labeled the part but everyone needs one... Besides, great things have come in the least expected origins" he replied as he took another swig of his bottle. Sure Ark wasn't exactly a goody two shoes himself with the amount he drank, the way he made drink and generally broke a large amount of rules.
But he did it after dark and kept it a secret rather than flaunting it about the place like so many others would. He guessed that was what made them different, he was willing to keep hidden and avoid the trouble since he saw no point in social value being raised from it. Maybe Aidan was different but to him he was another different case from the schools usual kind.

Aidan nodded, keeping his eyes on the page in front of him, but not really taking in what he was reading. Aidan considered Arkasel's opinion, his roommate's words resonating within him. Aidan was always told he wouldn't amount to much, both his parents and most of his teachers having very little faith in his talents. Although he was a bit of a 'slacker'- or so he was told- Aidan was obviously intelligent, and very much intended on mounting to a lot one day, in what he wasn't sure, but he knew that one day he would prove many people wrong.
"That's true," Aidan agreed, glancing over at Arkasel then back to his book. "My uncle used to be the biggest idiot in high school, such a class clown, but now he's the CEO of some corporation in New York. Apparently he earns about a hundred grand a year. No one would have ever believed it 20 years ago when he was in high school."
Aidan had always looked up to his uncle, living proof that you don't have to necessarily be successful in high school, or even university, to do well in life. "All you need is an idea and some time," Aidan's uncle always said to him, reassuring him that he could do anything he set his mind to. It did make Aidan feel a little better about his future, but it still kept him from striving to do any work in the present time.

Aiden agreed with Arkasel as he told him that no-one liked to be labeled and added that the most impressive things tended to come from strange places. He added even that his uncle had not been the brightest bulb in the shack in school and now he was the head of a company on a high end salary with no-one believing it had been him back in school. It made Arkasel laugh a little as he nodded, "You'd be surprised how many come from that background. Just because you're a super genius at math doesn't mean you're going to get a job past accountancy unless you've got the will" he replied before twirling the pencil once more and filled in another section of the cross word.
"Hell, you don't want to do it you won't even make it to University... That's all it's about" he added after, it was the reason he kept going. Sure he had a feeling university would be the same as the school but for further learning, the social dynamics being the same and such. But the interest in his subject spurred him further, he wanted to learn and hell it was the only reason he was surviving the school at the moment, that and being miles away from his family and feeling less of a burden which helped.

Aidan nodded as his roommate spoke, his eyes brushing over the words in front of him, not really processing them. As he scanned, though, he began to think; Aidan had always hoped he'd amount to something in life, but he was never sure as to what that would be. His uncle was a great example of becoming something out of nothing, but Aidan had little ambition, that is as far as details go. But as soon as Arkasel mentioned that just because one is good at maths it doesn't mean they will turn out to be an accountant, Aidan felt comforted. He had no interest in pursuing maths after high school, and that was really all people told him to do when the whole career conversation started.
"Yeah, accountancy is definitely not on my list of favourable careers," Aidan muttered shaking his head lightly. "And as soon as I'm out of here, maths probably won't make up such a large portion of my life. I understand it all, and there's nothing else I particularly want to learn, when it comes to maths that is. I'd prefer to do something a little more interesting, something that catches my eye, and which will surprise everyone I know." Aidan liked proving people wrong, simply because he enjoyed being right, so having a successful future had always been a must for him.

The two exchanged ideas about how they would wind up in the future and Arkasel offered that without the willingness to do something it didn't always mean you'd get past a certain point. Aidan agreed that accountancy was not something he wanted to be doing in the future, his head shaking to further his point of distaste for the idea. He continued on to tell him that Math wouldn't make up a majority of his life after and that he understood everything so far with little to no interest for more but rather something to impress others.
Arkasel gave a nod to agree with the idea, ”Understandable, a basic amount is required for most things but not much more of the advanced unless in the field of engineering or sorts” he replied, scribbling down another answer as he did. ”Any ideas for it? Juggling on a Unicycle is more a party trick than a career” he added after with a small chuckle. It had always been something he'd wanted to try but never had the chance but then again there had been a few other things as well.
Though he'd never do them, it wasn't his sort of thing to try since he had no use for them, he wasn't in any position either to do so, not many places to find a unicycle in the school though he had gotten quite good at juggling with beakers.

After staring at the same paragraph for the majority of their conversation, Aidan gave up on reading, shut the book and placed it beside his bed as his roommate spoke. As soon as he mentioned juggling on a unicycle, Aidan turned and gave him a strange look. What on earth was he on about? Aidan had quickly become confused in the conversation, wondering how unicycle riding came into the conversation, but as Arkasel finished the sentence but adding it was more of a party trick than a career, Aidan understood that he meant it probably wouldn't make a suitable career, his laugh assuring his slight confusion.
"I've always enjoyed magic tricks, myself, and I'm not sure how impressed those around me would be," Aidan chimed, a light chuckle ending his sentence as he stood up and stretched. While he was enjoying getting to know his new roommate, Aidan was a little more interested in looking around the school and seeing what he'd be up against for the next year. "I think eating spaghetti whilst roller blading would both surprise and impress people, but that probably wouldn't earn me much money," Aidan added and lowered his arms from the stretch.
