A late night in a boarding school was not something uncommon for the more academic students, it usually involved all nighters with books, paper, pens, piles of text and crumpled scribblings piling up to the roof. That was a normal night for most, however sneaking out to work in the labs was not since it risked the punishment of suspension and expulsion. Which was why it was such a large risk for Arkasel to do it yet he had been for the previous years to get what little precious drink he could to deal with his stunning social ineptibility with others and make the days go by faster.
But tonight was different... Tonight he had a guest joining him in the lab and that single thought alone made him feel like a game show host as well as slightly excited as to be able to share knowledge. That was until the crippling fear hit him again that he would have to talk to her and he had a feeling he would mess up royally.
For now but he was just doing his best after sneaking out of his room. Jeans, sneakers, a long sleeved black t-shirt and a hooded navy sweatshirt hid him from sight as he snuck quietly up the hallway, peeking out from under the hood every few moments to make sure he was clear. It took only a few minutes to get to the lab cautiously but when he was in he felt a lot safer as he gave a sigh of relief. Now he was back in his element as he peeled off the sweatshirt and set it on the coat hook, replacing it with one of the white lab coats hung up instead as he felt even more at home in the tougher material. He then set about the lab, grabbing the necessary equipment for the nights work and setting it up before heading into the store and lifting out the lab grade alcohol used for chemistry experiments and adding it to several beakers.
Once it was all ready and the supplies had been hidden away, he dipped into his pocket and pulled out a set of safety goggles, flicking them out as he slid them on in front of his eyes and let a small grin take over as he flicked on the small light in the fume cupboard. "Let the chemistry commence" he said as he flicked on the flame and let it heat up the still for the first cleaning before Adelaide arrived.

Adelaide tiptoed out of her room. She had convinced all her roommates that they were tired and should go to bed early, so she could escape without being noticed. The girls were great, but they were still all mostly strangers. She didn't want to risk being tattled on.
The redhead was dressed in all black, as if it would make a difference in whether she was seen or not. The hallways were lit dimly at night, but still, she was confident that she could get up to the third floor without being caught. The girl's footsteps echoed down the stairwell as she took small, quick steps all the way up. She made a big deal out of looking around corners, and pressing herself up against the walls. She hoped that none of the Academic dorms had nightowls that would find her.
Adelaide finally came across the room that Ark had written down on the paper, and she slowly opened the door, slipping inside and closing it behind her, noticing her companion with his back to her, cleaning the beakers. The redhead suppressed the urge to go up behind him and scare him; it could be dangerous, but she also didn't want to ruin their very fresh friendship. He was one of the coolest people she had met at the school so far, and wasn't about to screw it up. Not now, at least.
"Pssst!" She hissed, walking up behind him. "Ark! I'm here!"

OOC: It's np honestly, my fault for being so late making the topic
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once the still had been heated and cleaned for the first time, Arkasel had began to clean out the beakers quickly with the excess hot water and a bit of cloth as he tried to avoid scalding his hands. He managed to mostly succeed, getting only a small minor burn on the back of his left hand from a splash of water that made him groan. Setting them down, he gave a small sigh of relief as he let his hand run under the cold tap before he heard a loud hiss and turned to see his guest dressed in all black looking like some sort of teenage ninja. It was almost cute enough to laugh at but then again he probably looked out of place wearing the lab coat at this hour.
"Good to see you found it Adelaide, any trouble along the way?" he asked her as he took his hand out from under the tap and turned it off before drying with with a bit of tissue paper. It was easy for him to get to the labs from his dorm since he was on the same floor and academics usually got into less trouble than other groups which meant a bit less security.
"Stills heated and ready, Just have to get the Ethanol added and we're ready to go" he said after as he nodded towards the large jug of Raw lab grade alcohol on the counter. "Don't try and sneak a sip of that stuff... It'll make you blind with the extra stuff they leave in it without full distillation" he added after, knowing to well from his first time doing it what had happened. He'd been sick for near two days from the strength and the extras hadn't done him much good as his stomach began wanting to do back flips from it.

"Don't try and sneak a sip of that stuff... It'll make you blind with the extra stuff they leave in it without full distillation." Arkasel commented, just as Adelaide had reached toward the alcohol, ready to take a sniff.
As soon as he said it, the girl backed off and stood on his other side instead, watching what he was doing. "So what are we making, anyhow? And how? It all looks so confusing." The girl said, glancing up at her companion.
Adelaide looked at Arkasel for a second. He looked... comfortable, unlike how he was the day they first met. Then he just seemed a bit awkward, but now it was definitely in his element. He seemed happy, and she was happy to see it.

The moment after he had given his warning to the girl out of the thought she might try what he had, he found himself unsurprised as she seemed to dart back and move a little closer to his other side and watching as he broke the alcohol down into three jugs. Then came the curiosity as he finished it and leaned on the edge of the fume cupboard and looked at the still waiting. "We're distilling this down to the safer form of Ethanol via evaporation to remove the impurities via fractal..." he said as he began to get into an explanation before looking over to her and realised she looked rather confused for a moment.
"... We're boiling it in this thing that's different temperatures at different levels. Safe alcohol comes out the top and into this jug, the others go into these two" he said after as he simplified it as best he could. "You may want to put these on... Just to be safe" he said as he lifted another set of glasses from his lab coat pocket and offered them out to her before lifting up the three jugs and pouring them into the funnel at the end of the still that almost instantly began to hiss as it started to boil inside violently.
"When we have enough and add it to water... We get a very primitive form of Vodka" he said after, quite happy for once to be able to share his talent in the lab with someone other than for a thesis or research.

All the time Arkasel had been explaining how they made their vodka, Adelaide listened. She watched what he was doing and listened intently, but for some reason, none of it meant anything to her.
“Yeah...” She began, “I guess all I can really do is stand here and give you emotional support. Unless you want to give me something really basic I can do, do you mind if we talk while you work? I’m guessing you do this often, or else you wouldn’t seem so comfortable, so I figure you can talk and work at the same time, right?”
The redhead watched her taller companion as he worked, and hoped he would be open for a chat; she was immensely curious about why he started coming into the labs to do this alone, and why he agreed to let her join him so quickly.
Adelaide fingered the safety glasses in her hands and eventually decided to put them on, even though she felt like she looked lop-sided in them. "For my own safety, I guess." She mumbled.

When he had realised how he must have seemed to be talking at a million miles an hour to Adelaide, Ark felt like a fool and did his best to try and simplify it. He wasn't used to hanging around with people who didn't, usually it was fellow academics and teachers who he spoke with. She replied back saying all she could really do was stand and offer emotional support. That was something Arkasel was not used to hearing and immediately added a small level of discomfort if she had figured out he was that insecure about himself that quickly.
But quickly she continued on with an offer of doing something basic if needed and asking if they could talk while they did. He got a small nod out before she spoke again as she mentioned he must do it often or else he wouldn't be as comfortable doing it so he could multitask. "Keen observation... I've got a bit of experience doing this" he replied as he tilted the flame a little further at an angle and increased the airflow to it.
"Really there isn't to much to do now other than wait" he said after she had taken the glasses and put them on, barely catching the mumble after. "Believe me, you'd rather look slightly silly for a few minutes than have boiling alcohol in your eyes or even a cloud of it. That has never ended well in any documented case" he added after with a shrug as he turned to face her, keeping an eye on the still occasionally as he did for changes in the contents coming out.
"So why'd you come... I mean it's a god forsaken hour of the night and you barely know me, what kept your interest?" he asked after, curious now as to why someone would risk suspension or worse just to hang about with him for a little while.

As soon as Arkasel spoke so casually about getting boiling alcohol in one's eyes, Adelaide thanked her lucky stars she had him as an accomplice. If she had attempted this on her own, assuming she knew what to do, she probably would have ended up blind by now.
Adelaide was pondering this on her own when Arkasel spoke.
"So why'd you come... I mean it's a god forsaken hour of the night and you barely know me, what kept your interest?"
The redhead thought for a little bit, choosing her words carefully. To tell the truth, there were more than a few reasons, but he only needed to know a couple. “Well, for one thing, I’m a night owl anyway, I just didn’t have anywhere to go before tonight. And then I guess the rest boils down to our meeting yesterday.”
She looked at him, wondering whether it would be worth her saying what was on her mind. “I suppose when I met you, you seemed a little awkward, which is, surprisingly, something I like in a friend. It’s like a challenge to win someone over completely. You also seemed uninterested in my swagger; another thing I admire.” Adelaide looked up at Arkasel and reached up to gently touch his face, or more accurately, his left eye. “And then there was this. The mysterious black eye that went unquestioned. I have to say, Ark, my dear, I want to know where it came from.”
The redheaded girl looked into the taller boys eyes, with a serious expression. “And don’t freeze up on me.”

As the two seemed to do well in getting the distillation up and running quite smoothly, Arkasel found his curiosity peaked as to why she had decided to come out in the middle of the night and risk trouble for someone she barely knew. She seemed to take her time in thinking of a reason, possibly to try and find one or to avoid awkwardness, his money on the former due to his low self opinion.
Moments after the thought but she told him she was a night person anyway and she had nothing to do before tonight, the second being due to the meeting the day before. "I'd say I'm the same on the first being a night owl, easier to study and work when no-one else is around to cause issues" he replied, knowing to well of trying to do work when people made loud coughs, threw things or generally caused trouble to him in school while he tried to work. Here was a god send for the capabilities but a lot of the other academics where quite chatty to each other, he still found that a little distracting as his attention sometimes wandered.
But she went on to mention how when she met him he seemed awkward, to which he automatically looked right and down at the floor to. It seemed he hadn't improved that much and he needed to keep working on himself, until she mentioned that she liked it surprisingly since it was a challenge to win people over. It made him look up from beneath his eyebrows and the glasses that had slipped a little now as she added further of his disinterest in her swagger which she liked to.
It made him wonder if it was possible he was a little harsh on himself, until she lifted a hand up and gently touched at his black eye before he could pull back and he hissed a little at the pain. She mentioned that then there was it, the mystery unsolved that she wanted to know the answer to and that made him to ashamed to lie and to embarrassed to tell the truth. When she added not to freeze up it made him sigh as he realised he really had no way out of it than the truth.
"Me & my dad have never got along, not since he upped and left then chose to appear again two years ago... Last time I saw him was the end of the summer. I got this and he got checked into the hospital" he replied as he looked down and away from her eyes, ashamed that he would now come off as some lowlife scum who picked fights with his own family.

Adelaide was obviously sorry that Arkasel was hurt by her touching of his black eye, but she didn’t pull away and instead lightened her touch so it wouldn’t hurt.
“I’m sorry.” She said, quietly, hoping that he wasn’t uncomfortable with her touching him so intimately.
When her taller companion sighed, she knew he was about to answer her question, though she had doubted him earlier. "Me and my dad have never got along, not since he upped and left then chose to appear again two years ago... Last time I saw him was the end of the summer. I got this and he got checked into the hospital." Arkasel then chose to look away from Adelaide, but she knew that there was no way he could escape.
She moved her hand again to his black eye, as he had moved his head, and thought. She couldn’t say nothing, that would make him nervous, but she couldn’t say the wrong thing either, so Adelaide thought carefully on what to say to Arkasel.
“An interesting story. You’re obviously embarrassed by it, but I don’t think you should be. Everyone has family troubles, even if it doesn’t seem so on the outside. I have family issues too.” Adelaide dropped her hand to her side and took a step away from him, turning around as she did so. “I mean, I’m not saying mine are worse than yours or anything, it’s just...”
The redheaded girl put her hands to her head and gave a mild sigh of frustration, before dropping them again and turning back to face him.
“At least your dad is passionate enough to strike you.” Adelaide shook her head, because she knew what she said sounded wrong. “I mean, I highly doubt my parents are even my real parents. I was raised by nannies. Every time I try to get my parents’ attention, they act like they don’t even know me. You have no idea how happy they were that I was invited to come to school here. They thought it would mean the end of my, and I quote: “Attention Seeking Behaviour”.” She raised her hands in air-quotation marks and sighed again.
Adelaide looked at Arkasel and tried to pick his emotion. She’d probably just made a massive fool of herself, said all the wrong things, and managed to come off like a poor little rich girl. “I’m sorry if I pried too much, I just was curious about you. You’re...” The girl moved her hands about, “hard to figure out.”

His pained reaction seemed to drag one from Adelaide as well as as she apologised and let her hand lift to a lighter pressure on it. He felt ashamed of himself as he gave her the truth deciding that their was nothing to gain from lying and if she didn't believe it then it was all the better as his lies could be his own little fairytale world to hide in with her.
The silence lingered for a few moments as her hand moved once more over his eye and he kept his gaze at the floor, feeling he was about to get judged heavily and possibly a harsh slap for being such a git. But he was surprised as she spoke, calling his story interesting and noting his embarrassment which he shouldn't have had in her eyes. "Not embarrassed... Ashamed, I lost control" he replied quietly as she went on about mentioning that everyone had family issues as well as her hand fell back down.
She turned and took a step away after, saying that her's where worse than his before trailing off. The step alone had confirmed his fear enough and he turned himself so he was facing the cabinet again after flicking his glasses back on and reached in to lift out the first of the beakers which had filled with mostly clear fluid before throwing the contents down the sink and cleaning it out and placing it back in as she sighed after her moment of annoyance and turned back.
He was only readjusting the pipe and the angle of the still as she spoke again, mentioning how his dad was at least passionate. "He's not... He was a miserable bastard who couldn't care if he ever saw us again... The only reason he did is because I called his girlfriend a family destroyer who's IQ would be lucky to match the size of a Higgs Boson Particle..." he replied, still staring into the cupboard as he finished and went back to leaning on it, palms facing inwards to it.
She went on about mentioning her doubt of her parents even being her own, her story of being raised by nannies and attempting to win her parents attention. When she mentioned that they where happy that she got invited to the school since it would remove her apparent behaviour that she emphasised with closing fingers in the air.
"Sounds like they at least thought you might find what you want, that's a sign they care at least a little" he replied, looking over for a moment from the side of his eyes as he watched the still boiling before he quickly grabbed the second beaker at the side and switched it for the one coming from the top.
He turned his head back a moment later as she seemed to be staring at him before apologising in case she had gone to far and called him hard to understand. It made him nod gently as he looked to the ground again for a moment. "Yeah... I have that Social Awkwardness often associated with the nerd stereotype held pretty well" he replied before feeling himself shrink a little inside. "You're not exactly a four piece jigsaw either but" he added after, knowing that the more she spoke she seemed to reveal with no problems. It made things a little easier for him to know someone as he let more of himself go out there.

Adelaide didn't particularly want to get into the deep conversation of Arkasel's father at this point; she was just too sober to deal with it, and perhaps a drink or five would calm her nerves. It was hard enough drinking with someone who wasn't a Louisianan, but with a stranger. The guys back home used to joke about Adelaide's behaviour while drunk, and the girl was afraid that if she got too tipsy, she might say things that she didn't want Arkasel to know, but if she didn't have anything she might get too nervous to say a word.
Adelaide listened carefully as Arkasel spoke. There was obviously nothing she could say to him to fully explain the despair that occurred in a young girl when she realised that nothing she could do would make her parents even raise their eyebrows at her. It seemed that her male companion only knew what his parents were like, and Adelaide only knew what her parents were like. The closest thing she ever had to parents were Jane, her main nanny, and her childhood friend, Diego's, parents. Perhaps the best thing she could do, as with the subject of Arkasel’s family, was to drop it until later.
“Maybe we could get into this later.” The redhead said, giving the taller guy a decisive touch on the arm, as a demonstration of trust. She meant it as well. There was no way she was going to lose the connection she had with him, she felt close to cracking him, but every time it was in reach, there was something else to throw her off.
Almost on cue, Arkasel spoke about how Adelaide was a bit of a mystery, the same as she thought of him. The girl raised her eyebrows, and smiled slightly, as if the information of his thoughts on her were fascinating.
“Really now? I thought a smart kid like you would have had me figured out by now.” She said, a joking tone in her voice. “But then again, you haven’t really caught on to anything yet, have you?”
Adelaide cleared her throat and looked down at the “science knick-knacks”, a term she had been using in her head since she had arrived, and looked back to Arkasel. “So, where are we up to?”

Talking about his family was not something the Irish boy was particularly comfortable with, the last psychologist hadn't managed to do so successfully but then again they had also given up since he left the school quickly after. But then again he was just wanting to start drinking heavily with the memory of his dad, he was known by the few people he saw often enough to be often drinking thought they left him be at it. He was old enough and Irish, that tended to be enough for them to not care anymore than they would if it was a teacher.
After listening to her problems he tried to offer that her parents did listen if they at least cared enough to get her shipped off to the school. His mother barely noticed until she realised he had packed up and his Grandfather had been busy for a long time and able to help him through a little of it. He didn't realise exactly what she had been through but then again he didn't know most peoples, for all he knew they could have been anything and all he knew was a smashed family that didn't work out to well.
Eventually she put him out of his misery by telling him they could talk about it later, to which he nodded gently while looking to the ground before at her from the touch of the arm that felt so foreign yet so homely. Physical contact.... He may have been a genius of Physics, Biology & Chemistry but he still couldn't figure out why it was that it always freaked him out a little, like it was something wrong with him.
When she called him hard to solve he called her back on it to which she seemed quite happy about with a grin as she called him a smart kid with a surprise that he hadn't solved her yet and that he hadn't caught onto anything as of yet about her. ”I'm physical science, not social like Psychology. There's a big difference between the two” he replied back to her with a raised eyebrow before she asked where they where at with the distillation.
”About a minute away roughly before it's ready, the longer we wait the more pure it will be” he replied as he scratched his chin for a moment with his thumb and tapped his left hands fingers on the counter in time with the ticking of the second hand on the clock.

The Louisianan redhead held in a laugh when Arkasel reacted awkwardly to her touch on his arm. He probably felt uncomfortable, which made the action even funnier to Adelaide, who lived her life by making people feel uncomfortable at strange intervals.
When she commented on his obliviousness, Arkasel quickly replied with a raised eyebrow, causing Adelaide to feel a little stupid. She frowned a bit, pointed her finger at him, and said, "You'd do good to learn a little about people. I mean, I acknowledge that 86% of people in the world are morons, but you gotta have an open mind if you want to meet the other 14%. If I didn't know anything about people, I wouldn't have met you, right?" The redhead smirked, "And I wouldn't have someone to supply me with delicious liquor."
It wasn't a lie. Adelaide was truly happy to have met Arkasel, but the fact that he had the ability to make alcohol was just a tiny factor of it. Though she'd never tell him of her own account, she was glad to have met him for a multitude of other reasons; reasons that he would have to weasel out of her if he ever wanted to know them.
After Arkasel said that they had a minute to wait, Adelaide watched him, lazily. He was interesting, for sure, but there was something about him that kept bugging her, and she was dying to know what it was.

Arkasels reply back about the difference between the two schools of science earned him a pointed finger and a rather annoyed looking frown on the redheads lips as she told him he would do better to learn more of others before throwing out a statistic. He listened as she mentioned that she wouldn't have met him had she not followed that school of thought and that then she would be out of luck with the booze. "More than likely it's a bit higher than that, but you'd have to factor in people who wouldn't get along with my type and... Well it's complicated" he replied as he looked over to her.
"True, usually I'd be up here instead or in the library all day. Not much chance for meeting different minded people there and this isn't flavoured liquor, you'll need to bring your own stuff for that. It's more like really strong vodka" he replied before she asked how long was left and he told her only a moment. Her interest seemed to suddenly plummet as she starred at him at the cupboard as he turned off the flame and began to move around pieces with the thick oven mitts on as he removed the lid and let the excess steam fly out and he tapped off the midsection into a large beaker.
It only took a few moments of draining but by the end of it they had a good half litre of pure alcohol that he lifted out and poured a small bit into another beaker before adding in nearly twice the amount of water. "And that should roughly be the equivalent of a double per shot" he said as he took out another two beakers and poured a small amount into each. "Here's to hoping you're not sensitive to taste" he said as he lifted his up to clang before drinking it.

Adelaide almost laughed as Arkasel talked about her made-up statistics of the world's idiots. He ended it with: "It's complicated", and she did let out a tiny laugh. He went on to talk about not meeting people in the library, and Adelaide laughed again.
"You're just making excuses! You'll find interesting people everywhere. In fact, I met an interesting fellow in the library today, so don't give me that nonsense." The redhead finally smiled. She was happy that Arkasel had invited her to come to the lab with her that night, especially since it meant that no one else was around to interrupt.
After a moment, Arkasel handed her a beaker of clear liquid and raised his glass.
"Here's to hoping you're not sensitive to taste." He said, to which Adelaide smiled and clinked her glass with his before downing the liquid.
It took not even a second for the strength to kick in and the redhead spluttered a little, leaning on Arkasel with her free hand for support. "Oh dear Jesus! Bleh! It goes down like medicine!"
The girl made a little show of how bad the taste was, and, with a little grin, put out her beaker for another helping. "Fill 'er up!" She said, winking at the taller boy as she did so. "How long does it take to get used to?"

Attempting to offer a correction for the reasons as to why he would not do so well with trying to meet others resulted in him going off on a tangent which he stopped very quickly and offered instead that it would be complicated. This instead made her burst out into a small laugh that grew even further as he spoke and he felt a little awkward at the fact whilst also wanting to laugh himself. She accused him of simply making excuses and that he would find interesting people everywhere since she had earlier that day in the library.
"I never said they weren't interesting, I meant to say they just don't usually get along with me because I prefer the silence" he replied before he got the drinks ready, watered down and poured as he offered her a glass to clink and took a swig of his own, leaving a little at the bottom. Surprisingly it was weaker than usual, he couldn't even flinch at it but rather look at the glass slightly annoyed as the girl began to cough and splutter while using him as a leaning post.
"Usually it's a lot harsher" he said examining the beaker before taking the last of it down in a swig and pouring out a new glass for the both of them as she asked how long it took to get used to. "A year maybe, I'm just used to it from years of it I don't remember anymore, I just know it works damn well" he replied as he lifted his drink again and took another sip. "You can add more water if you want to soften it up" he said after.

Adelaide listened as Arkasel tried to clarify what he had said, but it just seemed like he was doing his best not to get close to anyone. It was a good thing that the redhead had forced herself so hard onto him, or else he may have wandered off. Adelaide wasn't about to give him the opportunity to leave, so she just smiled, knowingly.
But when Arkasel spoke about the weakness of their drinks, she raised her eyebrows and pulled her hand away from his arm.
"You're joking. You have to be joking. They're usually worse?!" The girl just shook her head, and picked up her glass. "Well, if I know that they are usually worse, and assuming I'm staying here for a while, all the drinks I see in the near future are coming from you, so I'd better just get used to it."
Adelaide sipped her drink like Arkasel did, wondering if it made it any easier, only to find that it didn't. Instead, she downed it and put the beaker back onto the table, hanging on to her companion for dear life again, though not making a sound.
"How many standard drinks have we had so far? I just want to know how many it will take for me to start cussing, because it just goes downhill from there." She said, glancing up at Arkasel, with a small smile.
Adelaide hoped that the dark-haired boy didn't realise how much fun she was having spending the evening with him. The last thing she wanted to do was scare him off, something she cared so much about that she had to stop herself from calling him "darlin'" or "cher'" every three seconds like she did with everyone else. But then again, if she had too many, she wouldn't be able to control herself.

Drinking in the lab was a normal thing for Arkasel, the same as sleeping, studying and running. All of it fell into a part of his weekly routine, but with a guest it was brand new and felt even just a little bit weird albeit pleasant for once not to sit in the dark while doing so with only his mentality for comfort.. His drink was weaker than normal and it seemed to be hitting his friend rather hard as she coughed heavily and he made a mention that made her eyebrows shoot up and remove herself from him.
”Normally they're a bit stronger, maybe an extra half, give or take a little” he replied as he downed what was left of his as she asked for more to drink and told him that all future drink would be coming from him thanks to prior knowledge and she would have to adapt. ”Bring something like lemonade if you want. Weaken it down a little and make it more pleasant... I'm just used to it raw” he replied as he poured a new portion each for them and he took a sip of his own, still looking at it a little as the girl clung to him once more this time without a noise.
When she asked how many drinks they'd had so far he gave a small hum under his breath before replying. ”Following this consistency, strength and volume... About the equivalence of seven shots of Vodka. Somewhere around the seven marker on units” he replied as he looked over to her as she smiled and he felt himself grinning a little as well. Maybe this was what social drinking was, not just sitting with other people trying to forget the world and everything cruel in it, but rather find something decent to hang on to.
”Don't worry about swearin either, I'm used to hearin it as nearly every other word back home on a good day” he added after, trying to offer a small olive branch that he was letting his guard down to Adelaide.

When Arkasel said that they'd had seven drinks so far, Adelaide laughed loudly, the musical tone echoing around the room.
"Seven?!" She asked, with a grin, her Cajun accent becoming stronger. "Are ya' crazy? I'll have ya' know now that eight is when I start singin', and twelve is when I start dancin'." She cleverly left out what happened at fifteen.
The girl laughed again when she saw him smile. This was obviously new to him, and though she had drank with almost strangers before, this felt new to her too. Adelaide kept her arm linked in Arkasel's, hoping that he wouldn't mind. She liked the contact, knowing that it wasn't just so that she could steady herself on him when the time came.
The taller boy commented that swearing wasn't particularly new to him, and Adelaide nodded. "Ah yes, by my dear nanny, Jane, always said that swearing wasn't lady-like." The girl looked down at her beaker, poignantly, wanting him to fill it again.
