Having obtained an apple and a bowl of mango sorbet, Emilius returned, "I'd have to disagree with you there, being temperamental and alcoholism doesn't make someone a monster in my opinion, after all Jack only broke Danny's arm under the influence of alcohol and it wasn't until the hotel fully stocked the bar that he tried to kill his family" he said whilst taking a seat and making a start on the sorbet.
After a split second of making a few observations Emilius suddenly got the feeling he had just walked in on something, "Sorry if I interrupted something I’m awfully oblivious sometimes, please carry on" He mumbled before smiling apologetically whilst finishing off his second spoonful.

Adelaide's suddenly looked up at Emilius as he took his seat.
"So you're saying that it's normal for an angry drunkard to break his little kid's arm, but he's a monster if he goes at them with an axe?" The redhead grinned, obviously turning his words against him, in a joking way. "He didn't go from a normal guy to a psychopath. If anything, he was a psychopath the whole time, but the hotel played on his alcoholism to bring it out of him. But he was pretty creepy before the bar was stocked. I mean, Jack was a total weirdo, but the sort of weirdo that is bearable in small doses."
Adelaide glanced at Angie. "But he was still a weirdo."
"Maybe we should talk about you know what later." Adelaide smiled. "How about at five, in our dorm?"

Angie went back to sipping her coffee forgetting for a moment it had turned cold when Emilius took his seat and went back to talking about The Shining or mainly the main character. She smiled slightly at Adelaide and replied simply. ”Okay, so he was crazy, even before the hotel probably but he certainly did make a for a really interesting main character.”
As to what else the other girl said, regarding Angie’s earlier request. ”Oh, sure that sounds fine.” She would rather discuss it in private then to have to explain it to Emilius. She offered a smile to Emilius. ”Don’t worry about it.”
Angie thought for a moment. ”You know I’ve noticed a definite lack of parties, so far, this year. Would either of you be interested in helping me change that?” She could use a good party and with the school’s approval it wouldn’t get anyone into trouble. Of course, the girl could hope that she wouldn’t be taking too much on by planning such an event.

"Well not exactly normal but certainly not psychotic, I would go as far as to say normal considering his background, I mean Jack's father abused him as a child due to the same reason he abused Danny, alcohol and anger, which is common in domestic abuse cases, frequently people who are abused by their parents abuse their children in future" He said enjoying his sorbet, "And although not typical these cases are common in varying levels, and so I think it's fair to King to say that he is consistent with his norm of making characters that are realistic, and I wouldn't say he was a 'weirdo' from the beginning, at the start of the book up until the hotel turns its attention on Jack, I’d say he was fine, just stressed which is understandable considering his financial situation and having been fired from his last job".
Emilius paused, reflected, then moved onto to the apple, "And of course everyone and anyone would be more than a little rattled if they experienced what the hotel used to unhinge him, I mean what with the incident with the wasp nest, the woman from 217, and his father's voice on the radio, it's no surprise that he surrendered to the hotel's will" He added, "Also the whole point of his character is that he tries to be a good person and is essentially normal, but due to his vices and temperament is weak and eventually is worn down and claimed like all the other poor souls that haunt the building and carry out its bidding, for instance Roger and definitely Grady".
Satisfied with his argument, Emilius relaxed, focusing mainly on his apple in an attempt to avoid hearing to much about what clearly between the girls and none of his business. He returned Angelina's smiled, which was wiped of his face and replaced with a look of confusion, "Party?" he repeated, Emilius had heard and read of such things but had never been invited o one, and his parents had always made sure he was away whenever they threw parties, "Umm... well I’d... err..." He mumbled, turning slightly pink, he wanted to be involved, but having never been to one, planning one seemed rather out of the question, attempting it would most likely lead to embarrassment on his part so he chose to withdraw. He coughed before replying properly, "Well parties aren't really my thing, and well if my letter goes to plan I might not even be here long enough to attend" He said, adding an apology.

Adelaide leaned her elbow on the table, and rested her chin on her hand as she listened to Emilius' nicely spoken argument. She smiled at certain parts that she disagreed with, but ultimately decided to keep her mouth shut as she spoke. Most of the people she argued with had ill-formed ideas, and badly though-out wording, but Emilius sufficiently summed up his idea of the book, and how Jack appeared to him, and thought Adelaide didn't think the same, she could respect his way of thinking, and his polite attitude.
At the end of his speech, Adelaide smiled slightly and nodded. "I get where you are coming from, but of course our interpretations of the book and it's characters would be different. I love most of Stephen Kings characters, and I always figured the reason for their realism was because they were all based on him, if only just a little bit. I mean, just think of how many of the male main characters were writers. I suppose that's why you could think from Jack's point of view and I couldn't."
Adelaide put her hands down on the table, gently, signalling the end of the discussion, and turned to face Angie as she talked about maybe having a party. The redhead's ears perked and she broke into a grin until Emilius said that he was hoping to leave before anything like a party would happen.
"Damnit, Emilius!" Adelaide replied, half-joking, slamming her hands onto the table with a loud 'bang'. "You've made two friends on your first day and you still want to leave?! This is an outrage! A scandal! I don't believe my ears!"
The redhead was getting louder and louder as she spoke, almost smiling. There was no way she was going to let a gem like Emilius out of her sight. The kid was as awesome as most of the other people she had met in her few short months at the school, and he would make a great addition to her team of friends, who she had playfully named, "Sprockets", thought almost none of them knew that she called them that.

The conversation about the book seemed to be at and end and Angie couldn’t think at the moment of anything to add. Both of their arguments seemed well thought out and briefly her mind went back to the ignored phone call.
Dammit, Emilius. Angie couldn’t help but smile. It wasn’t just what Adelaide said but the say she said it and her actions. Frankly, Angie didn’t know why the boy wanted to leave but couldn’t imagine what could be so great waiting anyone at home. ”I mean at least stay until after the party. You don’t even have to do anything; just show up.” She smiled at him.
Angie, despite everything, was glad she had come back. The people she was meeting this year seemed like much better people than the ones she had been associating herself previously.

Emilius was taken aback by Adelaide's dramatic reaction, he wasn't sure if she was joking or actually having a go at him over the fact he wanted to go home. "Well I suppose I could stay for the party" he said, trying to calm Adelaide down and avoid upsetting Angelina, "What would the party involve exactly?” He supposed staying for a week or two would be alright, it could strengthen his argument when he wrote home so there was a benefit. His only concern was that if his 'health' problems played up.

Adelaide threw her hands up into the air, dramatically. "Hurrah!" She shouted, and then leaned forward to point at Emilius. "You won't regret it. Cause when Adelaide Peyroux, Harpist Extraordinaire, goes to a party, everyone has a good time!"
The redhead was obviously excited. She'd thrown parties, though somehow she believed that these parties would be somewhat different to the party sweet Angie was thinking of throwing.
When Emilius asked about what the part would involve, Adelaide thought for a second, then a mischievous grin spread across her face. "I'm thinking one room with loud dance music, for those who are so inclined, then one room to mingle with drinks and food, and then another room for the people who like it quiet, but still want to party. And I will frequent all three to make sure everything goes smoothly. And for set up,"
Adelaide turned to Angie. "Since you seem more sensible than me, you can be the one to ask the Headmaster if we can have it, and if he wants a teacher to go, make sure it's Miss Hatch. I'll do the planning of the room and the music. Emilius," The redhead pointed over to Emilius again. "Since you're planning on leaving, you have to help us with the party. I'll give you 150 Euros and you have to go down to the town to buy snacks and drinks, okay?"
Adelaide leaned back and smiled. "We don't want a million people going, so this is strictly invitation only. Email me all the people you've invited so we can make sure a bunch of 13-year-olds don't show up, okay?"
When Adelaide was in planning-mode, no one could stop her. Well, no one except the Headmaster, who had the power to shut the whole thing down. But, if there was one thing Adelaide was good at, it was rallying a team.
"Oh, and Angie? I'm thinking having this for Saturday, in a week’s time, how's that?" The redhead smiled a little, and hoped that Angie didn't mind Adelaide taking over on the planning.

It was a good think Angie couldn’t hear thoughts, such as the thoughts Adelaide had regarding her. Innocent or Sweet? The whole implying innocence probably would have made Angie spit out her drink though she wouldn’t have been offended, it just wasn’t the case. Well, the girl was sweet in the fact that she was nice but not in as much in the innocent sense as one might think. But she couldn’t have blamed the other girl either, a lot of people thought the girl with the blonde hair with the curls that fell around her face and the blue eyes looked far to innocent to have done anything wrong, in her life. To top that off, her normal way of being had pretty much been shot out the window since the accident.
She nodded agreeing with the three rooms. And grateful for the help as it was her mind was having a little problem focusing on one thing. And she had thought of the party but the planning was eluding her. ”The different rooms sounds great. And we can be co hosts so I’ll go to different rooms as well. However, I’ll probably be staying out of the dancing room, so, I leave that to you.” She physically shouldn’t be dancing and was worried that someone would try to drag her onto the dance floor.
Angie glanced at Adelaide when she mentioned she should be the one to ask the headmaster. ”Well I’ll try.” Unsure if that was going to work but not explaining why. Angie’s friends last year weren’t exactly the type to stay out of trouble and she had gotten into a few things but the thing was she wasn’t associating with them any more and had stayed out of trouble since school began this time. Besides, she was asking first and not just throwing the party without permission.
Doing a quick conversation in her head she figured 150 Euros was around $200 dollars. Snacks and such were nice. ”Actually, I had an idea to cater in some food as well. I’ll call the place and take care of that expense.” She paused thinking she should explain that. ”I know of a place that will do that. Nothing extravagant, just some sandwiches, various things like that.” Her family was wealthy, not that until this moment Angie had made any real mention of that little fact. So, spending money on the party wasn’t an issue. And while the catering could have been something much more extravagant she didn’t want to do too much. ”But we do still need the snacks and such.” Thinking for a moment. ”I can probably get us a DJ, if we wanted.”
”Well, I thinking the girls in the dorm and some of the new people. But we can go over the list.” There were certain people she didn’t want to invite and it had nothing to do with their ages. Though, she might want to mention that later and when she was alone with Adelaide, not now.
”A week Saturday sounds fine.” She nodded. She said nothing that Adelaide had taken over and really didn’t mind.

Emilius nodded along with Adelaide's plan. He couldn't help but feel he was being press ganged into this but he chose to ignore to ignore that fact. "Wait, so if Angelina's hiring a caterer do I still go and get snacks?" He asked after Angelina made her kind offer to pay for a company, "Or shall I be doing something else to contribute towards party preparations?” Emilius brushed his fringe a little to the left, the fact it had started obscuring his vision out of his right eye irritated him.
It was at this point that You really got me by the Kinks rang out from Emilius's phone as he received a message. He jumped and quickly checked to see who it was with a startled look on his face before replacing it back in his pocket. "Sorry" He said awkwardly. Unsure why, he always felt embarrassed when his phone went off in public.

Adelaide nodded, lazily, as Angie spoke, and turned to face Emilius when he replied. The blonde boy asked if he was still needed.
"Yeah, we still need you to get snacks. I could come with you if you're worried about it." Adelaide suggested. Emilius looked a little awkward with the whole situation, but the redhead wasn't about to let him get away with going to an awesome party and not helping out, plus it would give her a little time to find out why he was so adamant about leaving anyway.
Emilius' phone began to ring in his pocket to the tune of a song Adelaide recognized. Once he had switched it off, the girl nodded and smiled. "Great song." She said, and continued, "I guess all we really need is drinks, and maybe chips and dip or something. What do you think, Angie?"
Adelaide rolled her head to the side to look at her friend. "You got any ideas?" She asked.

Listening to Emilius question and Adelaide answer, Angie nodded. ”Oh, we definitely still need snacks and drinks.”
She paused for a moment about to say another thought when Emilus’s phone went off. Adelaide said it was a great song and Angie simply nodded in agreement. Asking about the food, for some reason gave Angie another idea. ”Umm…sure just some snacks and drinks, sounds good.” She paused only to recollect her thoughts. ”Hey, what if we have it at the beach instead. That way we don’t have to ask permission from anyone and don’t need a chaperon.” Thinking time wise. ”It could start Saturday afternoon that would give plenty of time for the party with no curfew problems.”
She thought briefly about the fact that she would be at a beach party and what she might have to wear. Well, she would deal with that later. Maybe, she could figure out something that didn’t seem too odd to be wearing.

Emilius listened to Adelaide and Angelina's plans and nodded, confirming he was now clear on what his role was in organising the party. He kind of hated to admit it but the whole party planning business was proving to be quite enjoyable and Emilius was starting to look forward to the event. That was until the idea that the party could be held on a beach was voiced. Emilius twitched, he had started to loath beaches after a trip to Whitstable beach had left him traumatised when he stepped on a dead sea gull.
The appearance of dead birds was never absent from Emilius's later trips to beaches, and after coming across a dead duck on a stretch of shore miles away from any rivers or lakes he came to the conclusion that they were there just to spite him, putting him of beaches for life. Plus he didn't like sand. "Um are you sure the beach is the best place?" he asked, "I mean if the guests make a mess there be trouble with the authorities or if locals complain, since it is a public area".

As soon as Angie mentioned the beach, Adelaide noticed Emilius react. He looked nervous about the idea, and Adelaide didn’t know how to comfort him. She believed the beach to be a better idea than the original, and couldn’t think of why Emilius felt uncomfortable with it.
It was then that Emilius began to make excuses, reasons why they shouldn’t have it at the beach.
“Actually, I think the beach is a better idea than at the school. We’d still need to get passes to leave the grounds, but if we clear it before hand, it will be okay.” Adelaide looked at Emilius. “I’ve been to the beach, and there are bins everywhere, but even if there is a mess afterward, it won’t be that much of a mess, and we can clean it up. The locals can complain all they want. Like you said, it’s a public place, and we have the right to be there. It’s not like there are houses near it or anything, so we won’t be disturbing anyone in their homes.”
Adelaide tucked a red strand of hair behind her ear and folded her arms. “It’ll be fine. It will be a fine day, not too hot or cold. You don’t have to swim if you don’t want, either.” She felt like she was obviously trying to comfort him with the fact that the beach was the new destination, so she felt silent for a second, thinking.
“Plus, if we have it at the beach, we don’t have to cater, or buy snacks. But we can encourage people to bring their own food and drinks. That makes more sense, right?” Adelaide asked Angie.

Angie listened to Emilius concerns regarding the beach and he did seem concerned. She internally sighed not really knowing what the problem was. She had her own problems with having on the beach but was willing and that had been her idea. Maybe, a long flowing skirt would cover the scars but what about her arms? The blonde realized that maybe she should have thought that through a little better before mentioning the beach but it was out there now and still seemed like the best solution.
”Adelaide’s right. The beach isn’t really near any houses and it would be during the afternoon not too late..” She thought for a moment. ”I think we should still get some snack food and drinks.” Another thought went through her mind. ”Okay, so if you two will take care of the food. I’ll make sure we won’t get into trouble for having the party and the DJ.” One thing the girl had learned from her father was you pay enough and permits were of no issue. ”There have been other parties at the beach before so I pretty much know how that works.” The school rules were another issue. ”I think everyone will just have to get their own passes. As group ones would be hard to come by.”
She turned towards Emilius and gave him a smile. ”It’ll be fine and fun. I really hope you’ll still come even with it being on the beach.” Because, saying something like if I can do it, you can do it seemed really rude and really she had no idea why he was so hesitant.

Emilius thought for a moment. He disliked beaches, but he supposed with the right company any place, no matter how unpleasant, could seem desirable. Of course there was the other matter he had considered but as long as he was careful and too the right measures to avoid any incidents, then it should be fine. He didn't expect that little problemo to cause any problems for at least three weeks.
"Well I guess it would be more sensible to have it on the beach" he said, "I'll still go". He then turned to Adelaide, turning his attention back to his task, "So when are we going to go acquire supplies?”

Adelaide clapped her hands and threw them up in the air.
"HUZZAH!" She cried, upon hearing that Emilius would still go to the party. "We'll go for supplies on the morning of the party, let's say ten at the main enterance." Adelaide looked toward Angie. "We'll all have to spread the word for the time and place of the party, so pretty much invite who you know."
The redhead leant forward, resting her cheek on her hand and frowned a little. "What time is the party, anyway? And where are we meeting? The gazebo would probably be a good place to assembal everyone, right?"

Angie nodded to the invite who you know. ”Sure.” Though, that wouldn’t be the case but she would at least invite those who she wanted to be there.
As for time and place. ”Okay, I say the party should start at one go till well we can’t go past curfew. Though, I don't see a need for everyone assemble at the gazebo. I think everyone should just arrive at the beach where the party is..” She thought for a moment. ”We could just say it’s at the beach and put up signs down there. It won't be hard to find”

Adelaide nodded, happily. It seemed like everything for the party was planned out nicely. All that was needed was to spread the word, which was easy for someone like her, who could strike up a conversation with any old person.
The redhead smiled and put her hands on the back of her head, looking up at the ceiling as she did so. The day seemed fairly productive. She had made a new friend and had strengthened her friendship with Angie while planning a party that would give her a fairly tight grasp of the who's who of Desrosiers'.
Adelaide glanced at her watch and noticed that it was pushing on two o’clock, giving her only a little bit of time to finish up in the library before having to get to her next class.
“Crap, I gotta motor.” The redhead stood up and gently put her hand on Angie’s shoulder. “I’ll see you in the dorm at five?” She then looked to Emilius and winked. “And I’ll see you on Saturday at ten, if not before then, ‘kay?”
Adelaide gave a little salute to the two blondes and picked up her books. With a final glance, the redhead skipped her way back to the library to finish her spying on the Librarian.
