Emilius had been happily playing Spider solitaire on a window sill which was fashioned to form a seat. He was three turns from finishing when suddenly his ears picked up the familiar sound of Unforgettable drifting faintly down the hallway.
At first he tried to ignore it but eventually found it impossible. He had to know who was playing the track. After collecting the cards and stuffing the deck into his pocket, Emilius had wandered down the corridor in search of the person or music player responsible.
It turned out that the music was actually coming from a maths classroom that came off a corridor which was round the corner and across a landing from the one he had been sitting in. He now stood a few footsteps inside with a confused and slightly concerned look on his face. He couldn't understand it, the classroom was empty of any music player, the lights were turned off, and by the looks of things there hadn't been anyone in the room all day. Yet the music played on.
After a minute or so another student passed by, the short and rather rounded girl seemed not to notice anything. An explanation immediately leapt into Emilius head, but he dismissed it as quickly as it had come. There was no way he was going to except that one, for now anyway...

Darren strutted down the Academics hallway, his swim bag slung over his shoulder in an awkward fashion. He always took the long way down to the pool whenever he went with the excuse of exercise, even though he was just being nosy, checking on what people were doing. There were few people walking around that night, and most of the doors in the hallway were closed, so when Darren came across an open one, he took a second to register. The boy doubled back with the intent of closing the door when he noticed a figure standing in the darkness.
Darren went over and silently stood next to the blonde boy, looking in the same direction that he was looking. After a few seconds of silence and stillness, he spoke, "What are we looking at, dude?"
Hoping the boy wasn't having a stroke or something, Darren turned to put his hand on the boy's shoulder and give it a gentle shake. He looked at him with honest eyes and waited for a reply.

Already off in his own world, Emilius hadn't noticed the other student arrive and so when he asked about what Emilius was looking at Emilius flinched and stared at the boy with wide staring eyes, as if he were a spectre of some sort. "HOLY MOTHER OF SHAKESPEARE!!!" He yelled in fright.
Realising it was just another student like himself, Emilius apologised for his reaction, "Oh god...um I'm sorry about that, I thought you were something else", he let out a little nervous laugh, "So um where did you come from my apparitional friend". He smiled whilst composing himself. Emilius, having been a fan of ghost stories and horror fiction for many years now had always expected to be unafraid of such things by the age of seventeen. However this was not the case, he still found himself unable to seep without having the light on, if sleeping in a room alone, on occasion and disliked going around in the dark on his own. He particularly disliked bathrooms at night.

Darren almost jumped out of his skin when the blonde kid shouted out in fright.
"Jesus, man. Relax!" Darren took his hand from the boys shoulder and held onto the strap of his bag instead. "I just came from upstairs. Wanted to know if you were okay." The dark haired boy went quiet. "Are you?"
"Bonkers." Darren thought, shaking his head slightly. "This kid is absolutely bonkers. I talk to him and he goes nuts. As soon as I find out if he's okay or not, I'm out of here. Down to the pool in no time."
Darren stretched his arms out and laced his fingers together, resting his hands on his head, waitng for the other boy to answer. He hoped that he wasn't crazy or something. He had met some pretty weird kids at this school.

"Sorry I really just don't feel myself today" he lied, almost too naturally, "I reckon it's just I'm a little tired, and the school proves eerie at night making me a little jumpy". He gave one last glance around the deserted classroom before turning to the other student. "I'm Emilius, how do you do?" he remarked, extending a hand in an attempt to have a fresh start.
He noticed the other boy had a swimming bag, ensnaring his curiosity. "Is there a short cut to the pool this way?" he asked, "It's just I thought that it was quite out of the way from the academic block, although I haven't been here long so I may be mistaken".

When the blonde boy gave his seemingly forced excuses, Darren just shrugged. It wasn't like he cared anyway. He was just a stickybeak.
Emilius introduced himself and Darren grasped his hand, in a friendly way. He wasn't the sort to make random snap judgements of people, even though this kid sounded like a little weird one. Still, the boy nodded with a straight face. "Darren."
Darren scratched the back of his neck, lazily, and rested his hands on the top of his head. Emilius asked about the pool and Darren looked down at his back for a second, forgetting he was actually on his way there.
"Oh, yeah, it's not a short cut, I just need the exercise." Darren lied, patting his flat stomach as if there was some sort of fatty bulge there. "I'm a swimmer, so it's pretty much all I do. And poker. Do you play?"
Darren suddenly went into scouting mode. The fools he played with in his regular game were beginning to get sick of being cleaned out every week, so Darren needed some fresh blood to take the money from.

"Oh right" said Emilius, after hearing Darren's explanation for being in the academics department with swimming gear. He was tempted to check his phone messages, but resisted the urge considering that it would probably give the impression he was bored in a rather rude manner. Instead Emilius scratched his elbow before thinking for a moment to consider whether he had played poker before. "Errr not really" he mumbled, "I'm terrible at card games, well except for Snap, and Old maid". He smiled awkwardly, somewhat embarrassed by his meagre repertoire of card games, mainly because they were more for children.

The blonde kid, Emilius, stood around, awkwardly. He seemed really uncomfortable and was making Darren feel similarly so. When he gave a very childish list of the card games he knew, giving Daren the idea that he wasn’t interested in anything he had to offer.
The dark-haired boy held on to the strap of his swim bag a little tighter and nodded, frowning briefly. “Okay, well, whatever man.”
Darren stood around awkwardly for a second. “Well,” He started, “I guess I’ll leave you to it then.”
He nodded at Emilius and turned on his heel. Just as Darren got to the door of the math room, he began to sing/mumble. “Unforgettable... that’s what you arrrrrre...”

Emilius opened his mouth to say something when the boy said he was going to leave but failed to produce a sound. He merely watched him leave, feeling that he had made himself look like an idiot and hoped that first impressions where everything with the other boy, or that the other boy wasn't in any of his classes to spread rumours about Emilius wondering about at night and standing in random classrooms like a loon. "S-see you later" he eventually managed.
Once Emilius's thoughts had turned back to what had happened before the appearance of a fellow student, it suddenly occurred to him that he had heard the boy singing the song he had heard quietly. He left out a sigh, feeling reassured. He still needed a cigarette, and lit one up discreetly, after checking the corridor for teachers.
